So I love post-apocalypse settings. And most of the games I've played in that genre, I've really enjoyed, however most of the ones I've come across that looked decent, tend to be small scale, like, one person surviving, or a small family in a shelter, etc. But one of the things I enjoy most about post-apocalypse is the rebuilding aspect of the setting, so I'm looking for games along that line.

For example, Frostpunk, love that game to death, and it's very much along the lines of what I'm looking for, but I'd also like to see some games set on a larger scale, if they exist.

Like, any Simcity or Civilization scale games, that happen to be in a post-apocalypse setting? 'cause I can't think of any offhand, other than the above mentioned Frostpunk, and a game the Many a True Nerd played on his channel called "Atomic Society" which I think is still Early Access, so I'm kind of eh about that one right now.

So yeah, any suggestions on games that might scratch this itch for me?

I'm sure its not anything close to want, but I'm playing My Time at Portia... and finding out it is indeed setting up a workshop and helping build a community after some kind of cataclysmic near-apocalypse. But long after. The era where people are just starting to recover pre-war tech and struggling against the anti-tech church built around never developing the tech that was responsible for the apocalypse. Why I know its not what you want, is it is chibi Fortnight (doesn't seem to use the Unreal engine, but feels more like it than Unity) but with Stardew Valley gameplay instead of a shooter. Also its Animal Crossing level of twee. But that is the post-apocalypse I'm enjoying at the moment.

Yeah I've seen that game, it looked kind of interesting, but didn't feel like what I'm looking for specifically.

Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead has some faction camp building features that are kind of developed. Maybe check into that game in around a decade if they ever get over their 'realism' push and actually balance the game to be fun.

You want Reduild. https://store.steampowered.com/app/257170/Rebuild_3_Gangs_of_Deadsville/ And I want this setting to become it's own genre.

Never played them, but Kenshi or Rimworld might be of interest.
Yeah I've seen Kenshi, but I dunno, right now at least, it seems really sketchy as a game. Maybe when it gets more developed or something. I mean I know a lot of people love it, but I've watched some gameplay of it, and it didn't really grab me. The clunkiness of it seemed a big detrement right now.

I'll check that out, thanks.

I'm going to second Rimworld as probably pretty close to what you're looking for. It's not strictly "post apocalyptic", more frontier science fiction, but it adheres to a lot of post apocalyptic tropes and has a similar tone of surviving and building a refuge in a hostile environment with quite a radical mixture of technology.

Also, if you're not a big enough nerd to get into dwarf fortress, it's basically a super dumbed-down version of dwarf fortress.
