Hey guys, I need your help. I saw a movie back in high school about a poor musician who couldn't read sheet music. I don't remember much about the movie but I remember he was a gypsy who played a string instrument like a violin or cello. At one point in the movie, because he couldn't read what he was required to play, he embarrassed himself in front of a group of judges who cut off his performance very early on and at another point he uses what little money he has to buy soap to try to rub off his darker skin. I think the movie was in English and it might have been based on a real person but I'm not entirely sure. The movie would have been made between 1980 and 1999. Can anyone help me out with this? It's been bugging me for some time and Google never helps.

Number 19 FTW! ;)

Can you remember anybody that was in it at all? Im assuming it was some sort of prestigious audition, can you remember who it was for?

Not ringing any bells for me but it might help if you could narrow it down a bit

I tried a few Google searches but no luck, one of them only led me back to this thread!

Sorry, I have no idea.

I want to say 'The Soloist'. Wrong date though.. good luck though, I've been searching on and off for 3 years to find a short film myself.

Based on a quick search on IMDB, "The Soloist" [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0821642/?ref_=nv_sr_1], as the above post hinted, certainly fits the description. Are you sure about the date? Because I don't think films about poor black street musicians who play string instruments and are based on a true story are that common.

A short film? Spill it, you. Come on, let's have it.

But seriously, threads like this are more fun than the official Forum Games one. I stopped helping in the "Help me find this game" thread because it's mostly new users who don't bother with providing confirmation.

I ought to come up with a name for those types.

Well it was a short film played on the movie network in between other full length ones. Somewhere between 2000-2003 I seen it.

Followed a guy who was narrating his thought process as he had a series of depressing things happen to him. Everytime something bad would happen to him (which was all that happened really) he would yell out the narration "AND I FELT GREAT!". Now I'm not sure how it started, but I remember about half way through he goes into a convenience store to ask a cashier he has a crush on out, and she turns him down. Towards the end he decides to kill himself, the narration was something like: "So I decided I would lay on the ?highway/road? and wait for a big truck to come by and run over my head, AND I FELT GREAT." "but the truck never came, and then I felt, sad.."

I have looked over lists of all shorts aired by the movie network in that time, asked around on multiple forums, and have 3 other friends who seen it years ago and remember it but sadly they don't remember the name either. If you like a challenge I suppose this is for you.

Haven't found either of the movies yet. Could definitely use some more information, if not perhaps a filter in the details. I've sought out movies I barely remembered and found them all, like The Boogens (truly awful) and Forbidden World (very NSFW).

One of the reasons I love threads like this is you find the most random, interesting things [http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Fbmo_wUIYx4/UBWm3r84mmI/AAAAAAAAwlg/pVecMoE-tak/s640/Eva+Besnyo%CC%88+gypsy+boy.jpeg].

lol yup. You'd think based on comments from the Internet today that nothing happened in entertainment before, say, Britney Spears.
Can you remember anybody that was in it at all? Im assuming it was some sort of prestigious audition, can you remember who it was for?
Nein. Saw this is quite a few years ago and I mentioned all I remembered from this film.

Yup, been a while. I rarely visit the groups/forums here anymore.

I'm sure. I saw it back in high school, about 2002 or 2003, and it wasn't a new movie then. Also, the character wasn't black. Mixed race with darker skin, but he was clearly European. I should have been more specific but it's tough to do without using un-PC language.
