"Open world action game with co-op that unites players" Aaaaand thousands of interest curves have just flatlined with this new information of Hideo Kojima's latest announcement, because there it goes the possilibility of this game being Silent Hills with another name.
In case you've been living under a rock [I somewhat envy you], here's a quick trip down memory lane of the past few years:
Yeah, looks like a lot of people were bummed about that, many people claimed that P.T. had all of the potential, but destiny took its course with that one. As somebody who's still comforting his brother-in-law for getting a PS4 too early, I am interested, especially the "unites players" part, means this game is not going to be horror at all, which is fine I guess, a good game is a good game regardless.
We can only wait and see how this will pan out. But I do have to say this: many were disappointed about the whole Konami debacle because Silent Hills wasn't just going to be a good game, it was going to stabilish a bridge between the gaming and cinema worlds, with Kojima a game developer fanatic for cinema and Del Toro, a director that loves gaming; that could ensure gaming hitting the mainstream and developers gaining the same respect as directors and vice versa. The fact that this bridge always seems so close, yet so far away, now that is a horror game. It wans't just a match made in heaven for the sake of a game, it could have been the beggining of something great, something that, at the time, wasn't meant to be.
Still, points for Kojima for not taking people's money to do a knock off of his greatest work, tip of the hat sir. I've done rambling, any thoughts?
In case you've been living under a rock [I somewhat envy you], here's a quick trip down memory lane of the past few years:
- Del Toro, Guillermo and Kojima Hideo release P.T., a teaser for Silent Hills, their next big project
- It goes viral and successful overnight.
- Konami and Kojima have a fallout over MGS V.
- Silent Hills gets cancelled
- Konami's reputation takes a dive and Kojima's skyrockets.
- Kojima gets picked up by Sony to help untangle a few strings.
- Kojima gets together with Normal Reedus and Del Toro to work in a project later known as Death Stranding, presumably by many to be Silent Hills under a new coat of paint.
- Konami announces Metal Gear Survive, a game that split people even more than MGS V did.
- And there might be pachinko machines somewhere around this time.
Read all that? Good, back to the topic
