Nothing really to go on so far and im about to go to sleep, but someones hacked the official @PlayStation twitter account and announced that the databases have been leaked.

As per usual, if you care about your PSN account then its time to change your password.

And you may need to consider getting new credit/debit cards issued.

As for me, im going to sleep safe in the knowledge that my PSN account has nothing on it, and that the last card assigned to it expired 5 years ago.

And this is why I buy point cards and use those when buying things on playstation instead of tying a credit card to my account, and why I never save my credit card details on my steam account.

Sure it's less convenient but I don't have to worry about these companies' security being shit, because it is.

Apparently the Twitter/Facebook accounts, not PSN itself, were hacked.

This the same outfit that hacked Facebook and HBO? Apparently they're a "security hacking group" that focuses on celebrities.

Anyways, so far it sounds like they were trying to stir shit up with the database claim and it was just a Twitter breach. I changed my password but still, just another reminder nothing is really secure when someone's determined enough.

The other thing is, if they did breach the database a password change would be useless, along with two step verification or what have you. PSN download codes are the way to go as mentioned above.

You can't tell if the hackers are lying or not. Anyways, better safe than sorry. Sony didn't even warn their users until months had passed when it actually happened a couple years ago.

EDIT: OK, it was a week afterwards.

Ah, a bit heavy on the exaggeration there.

But yeah, it was inexcusable to say the least. Ironic how cultural stubbornness can be often the first thing to point a finger at, yet an American businessman was at the helm when it happened.

Consoles tho
Even having a good history with the Playstation brand and still sort of do this brings me no surprise and great amusement.
What's that about paying monthly to make online more secure console fans hmm? Console only security is about as secure as a piece of meat between five hungry big dogs. I want to say that I do not know the details and its very possibly a lie but the fact that it is even in question show how pathetic Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo to a lesser degree are at managing this.

Pretty much that. Yeah it is not as easy for some of us but it is the better route in the long run than risking your credit card info when that option is available.
