I've been calling myself a "gamer" since the mid-ninties back when starcraft movies were epic technology and the only fps people really knew about was Doom.

Yet, these days, I just can't lose myself in games the way I used to - whether new ones or old classics.

Anyone else ever get burned out like this? Think I should just try a new genre of games?

If you don't enjoy doing something, then don't do it.
It is as simple as that.

It happens to me every once in a while, but I always get through it. The latest Pokémon release got me back into everything. It even threw me back into WoW.

Sometimes a new peripheral may help this along too. I know that I would play so much more Xbox if I had a decent TV or monitor with HDMI hookup in my room. The basement is just too damn cold for me...

If you haven't already, get on your STEAM account and buy Counter-Strike, and the entire Half-Life series.

Sometimes it can get a little tedious. Then you realise that you're not enjoying yourself as much as you used to.

My advice is to simply find something else to do entirely. After a while, return to gaming. Hopefully, as I find, the feeling of tedium will have been removed ^^

I get like this. Msotly in days like today when I give another fighting game a chance.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is good, yet once again incredibly hard, and impossible for me to execute special moves when in heated combat or when required to make a Z shape with 3 directions...seriously, how?

Gaint misconception. Its not really a Z. Its simply. Forward, down, downforward. Thats it.

I knew that, but it's still ridiculously hard for me to do, and only works 1 in 20 of my attempts.

Ditto. Nearly everytime I try it with Spiderman he registers it as the forward sweep, so everytime I want to do a Crawler Assault and instead see him jump into the air and go 'Get ready...!' I die a little inside.
I DON'T WANT TO DO ANOTHER MAXIMUM SPIDER.

I've been feeling this way myself. I actually haven't touched my copy of DA2 yet, and I was really excited about it. That said, my problem is that my priorities have shifted a little cuz I need to stop coasting and start actually doing well in school.
A few months back I got really really really . . . really tired of the fps genre and played nothing but DA: origins and oblivion for like 2 months, that did the trick for me. Maybe you could try switching genres, if you're playing one more than the others.

I got burned out on games a few years ago and didn't really play much for a long time. When I picked it up again I was able to get back into it, but I can't tolerate bad/boring ones like I used to. Maybe just take a break for a while?

OP: I don't find myself enjoying things I go to to bring enjoyment to my life.

Response: Then stop doing them.

Me: Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

Anyways, I occasionally feel the same way, look for some older games. Games these days are often uninspired and made for the lowest common denominator, as games that go to a wider audience make more $.

I think this comes with age. A lot of it has to do with maturity. I know I have had moments of "putting away childish things" and was starting to loose interest in gaming. However I think Demon's Souls reinvigorated me. But I do understand the point. I think this is starting to happen, and I cant help but to think about extra credits call for video games to mature because if the industry doesnt mature as a form of media it will likely be always viewed as a childish thing.

So its part growing up and changing priorities and part the industry not growing to meet the maturity people go through and making things that are relatable to a more mature audience.

Your just growing up. Awesome, isn't it?

I suggest playing games in genre's you haven't played before. Pick up games you would otherwise ignore. Go outside your comfort zone, get into things you don't know. Works for me.

A thousand times this. Though OP, it would be helpful if you mentioned more than 2 decade-old games that are in genres that have evolved quite a bit. I could suggest some that might pique your interest if current games aren't.

hay even i who is most known in his group of friends as the most intense gamer among them, i some times feel like that too but don't worry its not that you are not a gamer or what ever you just need a break go out find more things you interested in, one day you might be board and say hay i can play video games!
and you know what they will still be there if you don't trash em and we the gaming community will all so be here. but if this is really the end and you never play another game again do us one last favor be true to games and help so port them keep the man off are back and help bring and keep this art form forever with us.

Third'ed find myself replaying classic psone/two games the other benefit is I have found classic's i never played like Silent Hill along with Dragon Quest 8 and the best part all of the games are around 5-10$ with the most going for 20$. Better games and value really the best deal I think.
