Lost Odyssey Question

Hi there, just seeking a little help.

I haven't played Lost Odyssey before, but I want to purchase it. I have read up on quite a few reviews so I know it's a well made game and nearly everyone who's played it has recommended it. Bear in mind, I also have never played a JRPG before and this is my first effort to step into that genre. This game, more than any other JRPG available on the 360 (apart from Star Ocean, but one step at time) seems really attractive to me in it's style and setting.

The only real question is, is the English voice acting well done? On a scale of one to ten.

I'm not what one might call a 'purist' and I'm definitely not Japanese, so I'm not interested in listening to the original Japanese audio with English subs.

This question is particularly aimed at people who enjoyed Lost Odyssey's story and experienced the game with the English voice acting.

Thanks fellow escapists.

Oh god, don't do it. I'm a huge rpg player, and I bought Lost Odyssey with high hopes and shining eyes (It did look so pretty). I couldn't finish it. I just couldn't. The voice acting was abhorred. Especially when it came to the girl and the little boy. I think the person that does phil/lil on rugrats does the voice for the girl. Gah. And the story just got so damn cliche and predictable that I just didn't want to play anymore. It was a shame, because when I started the game I found it incredibly fascinating and exciting to play. The story seemed unconventional and the characters were interesting, but aah I was disappointed.

Anyway, that's my two cents. Listen to some clips of the little girl and the boy before deciding, because you're going to be hearing them a lot.

The game itelf is amazing! I agree with the above post about the little boy and girl - but it's pretty good besides that.

My only suggestion is that you install all 4 discs first and check they work - I still cant complete it because my disc 4 is broke :(

Look, I do want to play the game so if it's one character I have to be worried about, I suppose I can survive because a game can be good with one niggling flaw or bug and there's nothing wrong with hating one of the characters. If, however, you consider the game's voice acting in general to be that bad, I may well reconsider.

The point of this query is that I don't want the English voice acting to be so bad that it detracts from the story and the enjoyment thereof.

Phil/lil... Nostalgiclulz.

I think I'm okay in that department, as I have a disc cleaner available to me where I work. The discs themselves appear to be in great condition though.

In that case, overall the voice acting is pretty good. I'd give it a 7.5. My god, those kids are annoying though. Like I said, they talk a LOT.

Okay, I tell you what, I'm making a mental note of your name and when I'm done playing it (some decades from now) we can have a big ***** fest about it afterward, you know, with empathy and the like.

Otherwise, I really appreciate your input. Cheers.

Haha I'll do my best to finish the game when I get back home (overseas, back in a week) and this will go down! Enjoy the game :3

Compared to most other JRPG's LO gets a 10/10.

Jansen is a love/hate type of thing though. He's amazing I think, but some people can't stand him. Check out some LO videos on youtube if you want to form your own opinion.

Oh and by the way, Star Ocean's voiceovers are horrible. Between that and the camera it was the shortest rent ever for me. LO poops on SO's head times a million.

Yeah Jansen is a cool cat IMO - the SO voice overs are cheesy, but I still love it

That's also good to know. I was attracted to Star Ocean's setting, but I'm very decisive and when I knew I was interested in playing Lost Odyssey as my first JRPG, that decision was concluded right on the spot. Plus, it's older, so it's cheaper. I consider myself lucky to have found such an old release in such a prime condition second hand.

The condition I've seen some second hand games in, you'd wonder if the owners played the games or fed them to Earthworm Jim's dog.

It's rather good. Maybe an 8 or 7 perhaps? It isn't the best, hell Gears of War is better in my opinion, but it is too bad. Better than some other games.

I would get it. Most copies are pretty cheap, it's worth it.

A word of advice, level up the kids. I'm stuck in a bit were I can only fight a monster with melee, magic results in the caster being hit right back. My one melee fighter is the kid and he deals one or two damage a turn. I didn't expect for the party to split up and didn't bother leveling him up.

Don't make the same mistake as I!

But buy the game.
