Turbine just announced it officially. Check out http://www.lotro.com for the beta signup for the release of the F2P if you're interested.

I dont have much Experiance with MMORPGs so ill sign up for it to try it out, unless i can find something better and cheaper to get me into it.

I tried Warhammer:Online and i found good, but the lag, the lag was terrible, and i usually have a great connection speed, is lag common in MMORPGS?

I think I may actually give that a go when it becomes free even though I've never been interested in the slightest before now. It will be interesting to see what Shamus is going on about in his Shamus Plays series first hand.

Will depend on the server loads, but I've really had more lag issues with ISP routing problems when backbones are down or busy. But those are pretty much common to all online gaming. Aion lagged in PVP something awful for me, just too many players and too few server resources.

Alas, I wish I could say he's exaggerating the starter quests to make them sillier, but nope, he isn't. :) But, I think I appreciated the humor in some of them more than the acrobatics that was needed to complete them.

Anyone know any more details about this? Will it be 100% or just another free to pay games? What is the pvp like in this game? Is it meaningless pvp like some corny WoW arena/battleground nonsense? Is it pvp with a purpose?

To be honest I mainly laugh at the exaggerated idiocy of the NPCs. Like the time when he has to go kill 10 bears to appease the spirit of a Hobbit made famous for killng a single bear. Then the spirit was actually a squirrel.

A little surprised this one went F2P so soon. DDO has been free for a while, but once you've made the commitment to be free, even if you attract a huge fanbase after that point, you've pooped the bed for trying to charge for it again. Once The Hobbit comes out, I'll bet there will be a rise in hobbit interest again... let's hope they didn't poop the bed for nothing.

Omg. Best news ever. I loved LOTRO back when I played it, but I felt like I HAD to play it because it was P2P. Now that it's F2P, I can play, and still retain my great life.

The basic game of Lotro is PVE, and the core is the Shadows of Angmar. The two expansion packs will be available for purchase, and there will be a general VIP programs and store to purchase items from using points.

PvMP is what Lotro has, and it is NOT the major focus of the game. VIP players will have access to the Ettenmoors map for Player vs Monster Player.PVP games mainly around control of keeps and points of interest, which is mainly for groups and raids. There is also general quests to complete to get teleport maps and such. The currency for the Moors is renown, which is earned with kills of NPCs, or PC's.

Warner Brothers just bought Turbine, btw. I didn't see a news report on the Escapist about the purchase.
