So, I'm sitting outside right now (Well, in an open-air hallway, anyway) and it's pouring rain...after all, this is Florida, and it's 3 o'clock in the afternoon, so it's time for our required thunderstorm, like it or not.

Well, the massive thundercracks have rattled my brains around in my skull a bit (Probably doesn't help that my heart is somewhere in the vicinity of my throat right now, either...) and it got me thinking...

I absolutely adore the sound of rain. I really do. it's relaxing, and dynamic, and I just plain love it. If I'm inside, I'll open all the windows and doors just so I can hear it.

But I am terrified shitless of thunder and lightning. Like, I'm 21-years-old and on the verge of sobbing right now from these ear-shattering thunderclaps.

So, denizens of the escapist forums, is there anything you love that inevitably comes bundled with something you hate? Something you stick around for while simultaneously shaking your fist at?

Chili's Food. Insanely delicious, but upsets your stomach.

I rest my case..

I love the rain but I hate getting wet, which is as problematic combination as you can no doubt guess.

Twitter. It's boring as hell, but it gives me a place to complain about my problems.
I'm with you there...I love twitter because it lets me vent my stupid little daily life problems to the internet, but at the same time I want to kill it every time that 140 goes down into the negatives. I'm verbose, damnit, and while I don't feel like writing a whole LJ entry on whateveritis that's bothering me, I could use a little more than 140 characters...250, maybe.

@xxhazyshadowsxx: I can't decide whether that looks incredibly delicious or unbelievably disgusting. o.o Wooowww...

I love being around people, but I hate talking. Strange, but I prefer to keep them talking as long as I can so that I don't have to say much. What I love most is when a person and I are comfortable around each other without needing to talk, but that's usually only been with a girlfriend.

Saints Row 2. I love the action and the over the top fun, but I can't stand when downright lazy coding spoils that fun(anybody who's ever played it knows what I'm talking about).

Being all alone. It's nice every now and then having no-one around and having peace. On the other hand, it's boring and sometimes a bit scary too.

I'm the same way. If I can sit with a crowd of friends and just use my laptop, interjecting where I see fit but not being expected to really contribute much to the conversation, I am a happy bunny.

Honestly, I think it's the best friends that are comfortable with silences. I've only ever really known two or three people I could do that with, and one's my lifemate, so yeah.

What the hell is with that character limit? Shouldn't they give you more by the point it's shown that you aren't a total fucktard?
Well, I'm guessing it's because if they didn't have a character limit, it'd be just like any other online journal site, like Livejournal and such. Forcing you to keep it short lets it stay the little daily-life-updater it was designed to be, and also allows it to be easily and painlessly accessed from mobile devices like cell phones.

But srsly, why 140? It's such a random number, and far too short for my liking. 250, or even 300, would allow us to better communicate what we want to update without turning it into a tl;dr.

It's not all that often that I get into a conversation I actually enjoy or can contribute well to, which is why I prefer just listening and/or giving advice on a situation. I'm just much better at it.

As for that 140 limit, I think it's just to make sure people with cell phones can get the whole update in one text and not need multiple texts to get the whole update. I don't Twitter, but since you mentioned them, that's why I think that's the limit, since at least my texts have a 160 limit on my phone.

Rain
Ohh do I love the rain
Just when I have to cut the grass after a good rain. I hate that.

Also Hail. I love that little pinking sound it makes as it bounces harmlessly off my room's walls
What I hate is what doesn't harmlessly bounce off of. (windows, cars...)

Well that...actually makes a whole lot of sense. I didn't realize you could get peoples' Tweets as text messages, but that really does make a lot of sense.

And I dunno, I just like being able to make quick comments to add to a conversation, but I don't like having the burden of "if I stop talking, the conversation ends", yennow? Let me add a few points here or there, but don't be reliant on me to have something to say every time you do, because I might not. Probably won't, actually.
