Love the art, hate the artist.

Has there ever been any author, director, actor who's work you've consistently hated, but then that same creative mind has produced some once-in-a-blue-moon piece of work that defied all of your expectations?

Example: There's this film called Falling Down, a brilliant piece of action/drama starring Michael Douglas and Robert Duvall. Probably one of my favourite films, it blew me away when I first saw it. After watching it, I looked at the credits to discover it was directed by none other than...Joel Schumacer! Director of such tripe as Batman & Robin and Number 23. A director I've had nothing but contempt for, and I'm sure any sane person would agree.

You ever seen a film/read a book that surpassed all your preconceptions of the artist like that?

Normally this happens with music, where I dislike the musician and their style of music, but I find one song of theirs that I actually like.
