I was poking through the ol' noggin earlier, and I thought of an idea for underage teenagers to play MA games

What if they took Rated MA games and just watered them down like "R" movies on tv, you know, take out the sex, some of the blood, cursing, violence, and then slap a Rated Teen label on them

Grand Theft Kitties

what do you guys think?

for some reason, the more I think about it, the worse of an idea it becomes lol

Doesn't work for every game and puts more work on developers because parents can't pay attention to there own kids.

It be easier to just castrate parts of society to prevent stupidity to begin with imo.

The problem is that it won't stop the media onslaught

"Christian theologists" and the right-winged media, like Fox news, will still call the game evil and amoral, while most parents won't understand how to use the features, or just won't care in general.

If you just watered it all down you wouldn't have anything left of the original just like Grand Theft Kitties would be.

Sure it wouldn't work for grand theft auto, but some MA games can be brought down to a Teen level

I'm thinking about god of war or devil may cry

Gears of War 2 has a "no gore" setting which has no blood and no dismemberment, and would probably bring it down to T level

I've never liked things to be watered down too much. Example, Guitar Hero's censoring.
Guitar Hero I: Not too sure, but the songs I've played on Frets On Fire, the censoring makes sense.
Guitar Hero II: Top notch, although I seem to recall hearing that they cut out a whole part of Killing In The Name.
Guitar Hero III: Great. I liked how they kept in 'Bastard of child of guilt and shame' in Helicopter because it wasn't being used as a swear word. Although, Suck My Kiss has damn cut out from the line 'Those mother***er's don't give a damn'. Which makes no sense.
Guitar Hero Aerosmith: OK, we're getting rather silly now. Take the small Suck My Kiss silliness of bleeping out damn, and multiply it to quite a lot of these songs. Words like 'Junkie hole' and 'tea' are edited out.
Guitar Hero On Tour: Absolutely STUPID. They brought back songs from Guitar Hero III, and it looks like they only did it to censor out words which they thought were offensive. They even bleeped out the bastard in Helicopter! And they bleeped out words like 'Hell' (Referring to the place) 'Devil' (Black Magic Woman: 'And she's trying to make a devil out of me') and other stupid things.

In short, censoring can get really stupid. Watering down things is bad, and you should keep it at a happy medium.

well, for Killing in the Name Of, they just used the Music Video/Radio cut of the song, which I'm sure is the same for a lot of those songs mentioned (at least the ones that videos etc)

It probably is. But many people were mighty pissed off with the editing of Killing in the Name, I hear about it quite a lot.

Just like everybody else, I never played an M rated game before I was 18.
Where the hell did you grow up? I used to get picked on for not being allowed to play M rated games when I was twelve.

Because it's a terrible, terrible idea. That slowly dawning feeling it's a bad idea is your brain catching up with political correctness. It can be a slow and painful process- just relax and let it happen.

Sometimes, the M rated aspects of games are in the core mechanics, setting and plot. It's impossible to turn manhunt into mario.

Just incinerate them. Gets the job done quicker, and you don't have to spend extended periods of time handling balls.
