I've beat the box version of Mass Effect 1, and I want to get Mass Effect 2 on Steam. But I'm worried that the game wont be able to carry over. I've looked around and nothing says either way. Anybody have any knowledge on this?

It will carry over fine, steam doesn't interfere with importing saves from 1 into 2 regardless if 1 was on steam or not.

The box version of Mass Effect 2 was able to recognize saves made in the Steam version of Mass Effect 1, so I'd assume that yes, it will recognize them.

You'd probably be best off asking this in Bioware's forums though.

So long as you have both games on the same system (ie. PC) then your game will port over. I own ME2, but my only playthrough of ME1 was on my boyfriend's PC. Copied the save files, ported them over, no problem.

This. My character carried over just fine and I had this same setup.
