OK so with the rather appalling(in some people's opinion)ending to mass effect 3, people are up in arms for a new ending and people all over the world are rejoicing (or alternately groaning as they realize that once one fan base can ***** till an ending, however bad, is re-written there is nothing to stop other fan bases doing the same) for more information on that watch cartoon wars on south park for why companies should never give in to complaints even if it could make things better.
Anyway people seem to have missed something, most people anyway. I'm sure there is someone out there right now cursing mans folly as he downs Budweiser and cry's a little into his pillow. and he knows what i know. bio ware aren't stupid, they knew what would happen if they released this ending, my three year old sister could have told you the response you would get from that ending, so.............THEY KNEW!!
So here is what must have happened in conversation form, enjoy
Jeff:"I have a smashing idea on how to make more money on mass effect three!"
Tom:" what is it this time Jeff? more DRM or cutting up the game and selling parts as on day DLC?"
Jeff:"all of that plus a crappy ending!"
Tom:" Of all your bad ideas this is by far the worst!! how in hell will a bad ending make us MORE money, you do know if we make a bad ending PEOPLE WON'T BUY THE GAME!"
Jeff:"AHH but we make most of our money on the on day sales people who wait to but it will buy used and we don't get money off of them anyway and if we make the ending bad enough, the fans will demand we remake it while the critics will call it art and the fans ignorant fan-boys.Then we make a new ending, while saying we don't understand why the fans can't understand our ending and charge twenty quid for it and every fan of the game will buy it and they can't call us crooks as we said we thought the ending was fine"
Tom:"your a demon Jeff!"
Jeff:" i know like my horns?"
months later............................
Tom:"Jeff, it worked!!!!! nearly all the fans are demanding a new ending while the critics and others who weren't as emotionally invested in the game call them fools and are eating up our ending"
Jeff:" excellent! I'm going to go order a solid gold toilet!"
OK so that is what must have happened. not in such a family guy way maybe, but that was the plan:
1: make an ending you know people will hate
2: stand behind that ending as art
3: wait till critics are on your side
4 cave to fan demands and make new ending
5: charge lots of money for it
6: order a solid gold toilet!
