Mass Effect 3's Extended Cut DLC, which adds exposition to the game's highly controversial ending through a series of epilogues and cinematic sequences, will arrive on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this Tuesday, June 26. For European Shepards, the free update will be available on the PS3 on July 4.

The Extended Cut isn't a new ending for the game so much as it is a Director's Cut of sorts, which doesn't "fundamentally change the endings, but rather it expands on the meaning of the original endings, and reveals greater detail on the impact of player decisions," according to the BioWare Blog. Peep the video above for BioWare's potentially spoilersy discussion of the add-on with executive producer Casey Hudson and lead writer Mac Walters.
The end has finally arrived!

Hah

...

Get it?

Oh good, so I can look it up on youtube on 27th and not miss anything. Not going to make me buy the game with this, no sir, they had their chance, they blew their chance when they tried to "appeal to a broader audience" and forced Origin on this.

You mean the same day as the Skyrim Dawnguard DLC for the Xbox? Yeah, Mass Effect is going to have to wait.

Poor PS3 players :(

Xbox users get the DLC a month ahead of time, PC has ridiculously awesome mods and the PS3 gets... a laggy and buggier experience?

They say that to experience the extended cut you need to start from just before that attack on the Cerberus base. Could this mean that there are extra scenes and dialogue from that point onwards.....?

I'm scared that if the endings don't turn out to be liquid gold, the Mass Effect community will be out for Bioware's blood

It quite likely has a large chunk of pre-rendered video, along with real-time cutscenes.

yeah, those are fuckin huge, look at the force unleashed, i can't remember exactly but sweet jesus that game was bigger than damn near every rpg i've ever played with mods combined thanks to all it's QTE's cutscenes and pre rendered stuff.

OT: i'll check it out on youtube probably, not wasting the time to download it and experience the shite again just for a few extra minutes here and there of nothingness.

Really? Hmm. I hope I've got a save from before there. I'd been hanging onto the save just before you go into the Conduit especially. Mainly as I thought they were just going to stick a slideshow on the end.

Wouldn't it be interesting if you had to go back that far as they were going back to the dark matter storyline.

Heh, ratings have been disabled for this video. I like how he goes on about how the artists on the team have passion for their work, when they had nothing to do with the ending.

Have to say ME3 will be downloaded first, (even though I've all ready bought my code for DawnGuard)

And just so every one in europe with Mass Effect 3 for the PS3 don't get too giddy (when have you!)

In the FAQ on the ME3 website it says this about the release day:

"The Extended Cut will release on June 26th on Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3 in North America and July 4th for PlayStation 3 in Europe".

I honestly can't recall what part would be referred to as the Cerberus Base attack. :/ Any chance you can enlighten me on how far from the end of the game that actually was?

This makes me cautiously optimistic for the ending. If they really put this much work into it, then perhaps this can save the ME series from forever being the black sheep of story-driven franchises. I'm getting excited for this Tuesday :)

Did anyone else dislike how the Bioware guys kept dancing around the fact that people hated the original ending? It's to be expected, but the fact that they kept referring to it as things like "discussion and debate" rather than "95% of your fans despised the ending" was annoying to me.

They've been doing that since day 1. Doesn't help that he sounds incredibly smug throughout the entire thing

A significant proportion of them will regardless.

However, 90% of it will be passive-aggressive bitching from people who will still buy every game and preface every criticism with a gushing assertion of being a "twoo fan" whose experience is being ruined by the cancerous influence of Jennifer Hepler and too much ghey or something.

Unfortunately Bioware seems to have acquired one of the most poisonous and disgusting vocal minorities in history. Fortunately, they seem to be remarkably good at tuning them out, so I suspect I'm going to do the same and engage in cautious optimism that the new ending will be, if not great, then at least good enough.

Pretty close. I think you go from Cerberus straight to Earth, so, small number of missions, but takes a while. If you finish the game, after the credits it spits you out just before that. My understanding is you can dick around the universe as much as you want until that point, but once you start the assault on Cerberus you have no choice but to press on to the end.

Hmmmm, very wary but still cautiously optimistic. I will play through it with my Paragon Shepard's max EMS and hope for the best.

Ah, okay, that clears it up. You're right, right before the Attack on Cerburus bit is where you get dumped after you complete the game. Now that you mentioned it, it's all coming back to me. Thanks :)

It says you need a save file from before the cerburus attack
