I recent got the Grand theft auto collection on gamersgate for $12 thanks to a forum member here. I installed gta 4 and was hit by massive lag on my high end gaming PC.

Here are my Pc specs:
Intel core i7 2600K
2x MSI GTX 570
8 gigs of G.Skill ripjaws

The only fixes I found were for low end PC's. I tried them and it helped a bit. Turning SLI off helped some more but it is still not playable. I have also turned off windows key logger.

Any help would be appreciated.

Isn't GTA IV one of those games where the pc port has virtually no optimisation, and thus runs like shit on literally any system?

Yes, but even when i turn the settings way down, it doesn't make a significant difference. My PC is super high end and should run it just fine.

Ok, so I messed around with the Nvidia control panel and turning the settings down helps a lot. I still get small lag spikes but it seems to be working fine now.

It's possible that the control panel is antialiasing, and so is the game itself. DirectX games are usually fairly good about that though.

Another possibility is that you have a shitty integrated graphics chipset that is overriding the graphics card and trying to run the game all by itself.

I think I have the problem sorted out now. Antialiasing seems to have been the culprit. My fps went from 5 to 60 with occasional lag spikes because GTA 4 is poorly optimized.

Glad you got it fixed. GTA IV is the epitome of a terribly optimized console port. It's right up there with the original Assassin's Creed in the realm of bringing computers that handily run Crysis to their knees, even on heavily lowered settings.
