So Mark Wahlberg is to star as Max Payne in the upcoming movie. I like Mark Wahlberg and think he could pull off the role. What worries me is the proposed PG-13 rating of the movie, the games were at least a 15 (UK) and had tons of blood, gun-fights, bullets flying everywhere and whatnot and then there was the script...

... Do you think this will ruin the film? I'm thinking it will ruin it's potential to be a great film and the faith in the movie industry to re-create games will disappear almost for good.

I think it's going to be very hard to make this movie even above average, at least from the info I know of.

I love the Max Payne series, mostly for the themes and the story. The gameplay and the action was great as well.
I remember playing the Ragnarok level for the first time and not knowing what to expect because everything happening at the same time, the insane lupino and his followers, all of the references to mythology, the uber bad drug and the massive snowstorm. For a minute there I thought that the game was going supernatural. Did anyone else get that feeling too?

I liked the game & its dark graphic novel/film noir presentation & themes. Id be very suprised if that translates into a PG film at all. wont be suprised if the only thing theyll keep from the game is the bullettime (which will probably be used far too much)

It did have a supernatural feel to it. Especially the nightclub and dream sequences.

The PG-13 rating worries me too. They would have to lose a lot of the story to get away with that. I hope they don't make an arse of this like so many other games on film, it would be a terrible shame.

I kept wondering as well, but I think they did a great job of using the mythology without actually straying(too much) from reality.

It could be a great film if it was shot similar to Sin City and there was no restrictions on what they could do. Film Noir with that Max Payne narration etc. Could be awesome.

Well, I kinda did like Behind Enemy Lines, the action sequences anyway, so maybe it won't be so bad. But I highly doubt there's going to be any direct referencing to source material in regards to style (comic book style interstitials, inner monologues, etc.)

Whatever, same thing that I said on "10,000 BC" Thread.

I'll see anything that I think might be good, even that Far Cry movie.

Key word's:"GOOD PLOT'S"!!!

i do like mark whalberg and i think he could verry easily pull off max payne, i will also say that of the movie/games they've done the story of max payne is the most easy to pull off plus come on, everyone loves these cop movies. they are everywhere now so i'm assuming thats whats fueling this. and for once it's a story driven game their using. i only played the max payne games about 5 minutes really but as i understand it the story is very good so this has potential now not knowing the original story i don't know what they are gonna change so i will probably still be able to enjoy it, i remember it as being a very gritty game with a fair amount of "colorful language" which i'm sure will be cut for the pg-13 rating. i just hope the story isn't kidyfied as i recall his wife and daughter were brutally murdered or something along those lines, which is a great jumping off point for an empty hero like max.
so this has potential even with that rating but i think it hurts it. i could be talked into seeing it.

I swear I was thinking the same thing the other week, only now did I hear this movie is in the works. The comic style cut scenes scream for a sin city style movie. I even thought they must have hired the sin city comic creator to do the max payne story, I still dont know if they did or not..

I think as classy as the max payne wit is/was, the drug/conspiracy/dark storyline (and how he reacts to it) is a lot of what made max payne, and that may be hard to not ruin by keeping the movie pg. Although I'm willing to argue that 15 years ago alot of the pg movies nowadays would have been 15+, so Im hoping that means they dont mess it up or cull the essence too much.

I'll wait for it to come out on dvd. Video game movies have consistently let me down over the years and I simply cannot justify paying 9 dollars to spend ninety minutes watching a movie belonging to a genre that seems to always fail to deliver.

With the exception of Mortal Kombat...I did thoroughly enjoy that movie.
WTF? I hope to god you are joking.
Come on now! Mortal Kombat?! It was NO D.O.A!

I used to love the idea of games to films. Now it makes me cry... a lot. Look at what they did to Hitman! Silent hill! Every other game to film created! One could only hope that they gain a respectably intelligent director, rather than a bum picked from the street with a limited to none knowledge of the game he is turning into a film in a snazzy but short fitting suite. >:L|
I totally agree with you. Strangely, I saw Hitman with people who are NOT gamers and they loved it? Maybe they are just bad people though. Did you notice that Hitman was written by a guy named Skip? Lol. Good job, Skippy. You suck.
