Well, this is my first post on any forum ever, so I hope you'll forgive me for bringing Mass Effect up. I know there have been shed-loads of threads about it, everywhere and most people are sick to the back teeth of of the whole thing but I do have a question about the plot I hope somone can help me with.

The first game starts some time after the invasion should have taken place. You learn on Ilos that after the Protheans were more-or-less wiped out the last few stragglers set about sabotaging the next cycle by leaving warning beacons and altering the keepers so that they wouldn't respond to Sovereign's signal to open the Citadel relay, meaning it had to go there and open it its self, you have to stop it and delay the invasion. So far so simple.

The bit that narks me is this. If the thing controlling the Reapers and the Citadel was there all along, I don't see why this would be necessary. Why did it need Sovereign to go back to the Citadel to activate it, instead of the Kid just doing it its self? Why didn't the Kid notice/take action when the supposidly extinct Protheans turned up to the Citadel and started messing with the Keepers?

It doesn't seem to be discussed and I was hoping the Extended cut would deal with it. Well it didn't or wasn't paying close enough attention (in fairness the D/L didn't work so I youtubed the endings) and I simply CBA to trawl through millions of angry comments on countless forums to find the answer.

If anyone can clear that up for me, I'd be greatful.

No EC did not address this unfortunately, however I think some of the additional information given to us about the Catalyst leaves enough wiggle-room for people to come up with feasible reasons why ME1's plot was still necessary. We shouldn't have to do Bioware's legwork for them but there it is.

My interpretation is simply that, since the Catalyst has become the collective consciousness of all Reapers, he goes inert when the Reapers are in dark space and created the keepers to keep the Citadel running while he's asleep. They leave a scout (Sovereign) to wait and see when the galaxy is ready for harvesting and when the Keepers didn't respond to the signal Sovereign knew he had to find a plan B as the Catalyst could be of no help until the bulk of the Reaper fleet was in the galaxy. Its not a perfect explanation by and means, but there are so many plot holse revolving around the Catalyst that it is impossible to fill them all.

There is no answer. That's what is known as a plot hole. A big, fat, smelly plot hole.

And no, the EC doesn't fix it.

It makes as much sense as

> Race of giant organic space cuttlefishes created Geth like Robot Space Cuttlefishes.

> Robot space cuttlefishes rebelled, but the space jellyfishes won.

> Problem was that the organic robot space cuttlefishes' society depended on them because they were lazy (Reapers were their Mexicans). So they created the Space God Kid to keep the robot cuttlefishes under the leash and installed it in the Citadel (which was a shipyard for building robot space cuttlefishes.

> Space God Kid started computing Pi and somehow one of his processors shorted so he reached the most retarded circular logic conclusion in the history of the universe.

> Space God Kid zerg rushed the organic space cuttlefishes because of the conclusion.
so in conclusion

Fuck Bioware.

Fuck EA.

Fuck Walters and Hudson.

(Is that enough content for a post, or would you like me to add more fucks?)

That makes a bit of sense, a little like the Geth collective consciousness, they're dumb as a rock when alone but with more Geth around they become more intelligent.

Either that, or the god child has no/very little direct control over the citadel itself (hey, i can't make my house move...) The only thing we ever see him do directly is activate the elevator at the very end... that seems like a far cry from total control to me.If he did control the citadel completely, he could have opened the relay himself/kept the citadel closed when sovereign was getting pummeled by the fleets/"refuse" to open to accept the crucible,etc...

True enough, Sovereign was alone and didn't seem "dumbed-down" by it...

Hudson: It makes sense if you don't think about it!

Leviathan could answer this plot hole or at least give more clarification, but in reality, it's going to rip open some other plot holes as well.

...Stupid godchild nonsense. Gawd!

Where would i find statistics about how many People even downloaded the extended Cut? I figure many People stopped caring and may eventually just youtube it since your input still changes very little.
