Yeah yeah, I know, another ME3 thread. Disregarding everything else that people dislike about the ending, it has occurred to me that no matter which colour is picked the Cycle will continue, so activating the catalyst at all is pointless.

Let me elaborate.

Red: The Catalyst even states this, the cycle won't end, the synthetics will be destroyed but can be recreated later...so the cycle isn't ended.

Blue: Controlling the Reapers....so, what? Shepard either uses them to continue harvesting advanced races like the catalyst does, or destroys the uprising synthetics using the Reapers(which is what the catalyst should have been doing anyway)...so cycle hasn't ended.

Green: Techno-Organics created...um ok, new form of life and all that, but what is to prevent the techno-organics from creating AIs that will rise up and destroy them? Or even from creating pure organics that rise up and destroy them? So....cycle isn't broken either..

So why are these presented as solutions, when they don't solve anything?

I would imagine that the green option works on the principle that organics build ever smarter machines to do stuff for them and those machines eventually become sentient, like he geth, and with a merger between organics and synthetics such a scenario wouldn't happened because everyone would be uber-hybrided.

Each of the paths does potentially stop the cycle.

Red: Hope that the children learn from past mistakes. Star Child thinks they won't but that doesn't mean it can't happen

Blue: He can control them and have them not destroy everyone and try to get along with the synthetic races (Something that the Geth/Quarian conflict showed is a very real possibility)

Green: There are no synthetics and organics, everyone is the same so there is no need for them to war (based on...ethnicity? at least). I also think this goes with option Red of "learn from your mistakes"

EDIT: Also, I agree that you really should change your thread title.

Wow...that's a rather...ummmm...."interesting" interpretation of the endings. Allow me to offer this one in it's place.

Red: Indeed all synthetics are destroyed (Reapers included) and indeed organics can just create synthetics again in the future. But that being the case the organics will either destroy the synthetics again when they rise up or the synthetics will destroy the organics and render the galaxy devoid of sentient organic life for the rest of forever. Either way: the Reaper Cycle is over.

Blue: If you believe this actually happens as, according to the most popular theory, this is actually an "indoctrination trap" within Shepard's mind (where the entire scene is playing out) and as such picking this option just means that you become fully indoctrinated and the Reapers win. If you believe that all the endings are to be taken at face value, then this one has the brightest outlook. The Reapers, now controlled by Paragon Shepard's benevolent will, hault their rampage and fly off. The relays were Reaper technology, as such - keeping in mind that they're now controlled by Shepard's will - could teach the organic races how to rebuild the relays and thus rebuild galactic society. What Shepard did with the Reapers after that is anyone's guess, I'd imagine he/she would just send them off into dark space for the rest of eternity...or until a need for an unstoppable fleet of robot space monsters is needed again.

Green: This is another "Indoctrination Trap" if you believe the Indoctrination theory, and as such picking it means that Shepard becomes indoctrinated/dies and the Reapers win. If you believe it actually happens then the cycle is over. All forms of life, synthetic and organic, now share a common DNA. To quote the catalyst: "This is the ultimate form of evolution." In other words, everyone in the entire galaxy - synthetic or organic - become exactly like what the Reapers are: a combination of synthetic life and organic life. Being the highest form of evolution that means that there's no further room for progress. As such any life form created by this new race would either be lesser than the universal master race that created it, or at best equivalent to it. It's the "They all lived happily ever after" ending if you believe the endings are meant to be taken at face value, as I'd imagine it's supposed to usher in a new utopian era of a completely united galaxy. Plus it means that Joker can actually knock up EDI. :p

Captcha: Seriously? Fucking seriously? "higgledy-piggledy"......wow.

Again, any form of logic which naturally ends up with monsters(in this case synthetic monsters) from the Andromeda galaxy invading the Milky Way as it's logical endpoint is composed of utter fail.
I've seen this mentioned a couple times now...did I miss something? What's all this business about Reapers from Andromeda coming all the way over here to kick our asses?

I didn't read your post because I haven't played the game yet--I just wanted to point out that everybody can see the thread's title, even if you put "ME3 ending spoilers" in the title. So it would be best to keep the spoilers inside the thread itself. It's sort of like having a secret meeting in a soundproof box but writing all your secrets on the outward-facing wall.

I was just about to comment on that. Stating "The Reaper Cycle hasn't ended." In the title completely spoils everything for every person. I for one normally don't give a damn for spoilers, but for my personal play through of Mass Effect, I'd like it spoiler free. Too late now with all the hate.
