I'm.... Honestly suprised the search button didn't bring anything up. Anyone who enjoyed Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries will be happy to know, that a Mod/Dev team has been, ever since the release of MW4, modding, adding, and overall awesomefying Mechwarrior 4.
This team is called Studio Mektek. They've worked hard, and for it, the guys who now own the IP to Mechwarrior (Smith and Tinker), and Microsoft, agreed to let Mektek have full, free reign.
Mektek has full permission to make Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries free for everyone.

Get to it, Gents. Essentially, you need to go through their own take on 'Steam', which is called MTX, it auto-patches, upgrades, and downloads all sorts of new stuff and whatnot. (With your permission and direction, duh).
Anyways. Mechwarrior 4. It's free. It's upgraded. It has a dev team thats doing it for free. It has new content (105 'Mechs!) And continuing to develop the Multiplayer (It's a big thing! Go play Multiplayer!)If you're worried about hackers, the dev-teams been working on this thing since they had permission to release Mechwarrior 4 (Which was almost a year ago. some 10 months of straight development + Lawyer talk with Microsoft, who just now gave the go ahead)
Youknow, we talk about DRM, pirating, retro games, new games. Why not talk about a game thats now out for free? Not just any game that's free. But how about a game that was featured on TV (G4TV's ARENA had Mechwarrior 4 - Black Knight. But Mercs came out after that.... So yeah.), has good reviews, and is considered the last great mechwarrior game (Sorry mechAssault, you were fun... But you just we're Mechwarrior.)
