July 9th, Piranha Games released this trailer of its upcoming project, a reboot of the Mechwarrior Series with updated graphics and a rewind in the story.
Mechwarrior HD Trailer
From year displayed in the trailer, 3015, places the game in the Succession Wars, a bloody struggle between the Houses of the Inner Sphere.
The trailer's action takes place between Davion and Kurita forces fighting over the world of Deshler along the Draconis March (a hotspot where Davion and Kurita have fought constantly).
As a stalwart MW and Battletech fan, this news is godsend. Mechwarrior 4 was an excellent game with mods making it even better, but the two explorations into the Console world (Mechassault and Mechassault 2) were far to arcadey (powerups? really?).
The tiny bit of gameplay in the video is really interesting stuff (though Piranha could do with fixing up the sound, Mech 4 had far juicier, meatier sounds than this trailer).
The pilot takes down the Jenner-D
(the first mech that Jump Jets onto the building) by firing SRMS into the building ITSELF,
obliterating the building and crushing the Jenner (a 35-ton light mech) with ease.
That's exciting stuff, no longer are buildings just giant shoeboxes that you can bounce off of, they're destructible,
as a game with giant robots should expect them to be.
The fact that it's 3015 also means the possibility of NO CLAN MECHS
(including the Mad Cat/ Timberwolf, the iconic mech of the Mechwarrior/Battletech universe)
either way, what are your thoughts?
if you can't tell, I'm kinda excited.
