So here recently I don't know why, but I have really wanted to learn how to meditate, it could be because the lack of sleep, it could be the stress, it could be the dark god Cthulhu hanging out under my bed. I really just want some pointers and or insight on the whole meditation process. I could google it or anything else, but I'd rather hear what helps people get into their "trance" or whatever it is you want to call it.

On another note, curious as to if meditation has helped in your day to day life, like helped you make changes that needed to be made in your life, and has helped you make decisions that were difficult. Reason I'm curious is because I really want to change myself for the better, but have trouble with doing it, call me lazy or whatever else you want, because I probably am, I am not gonna sit here and make up excuses. So any pointers, or words of wisdom or advice is much appreciated.

I love meditation! It's great. It's pretty awesome to have some time to just let your mind process everything. It's also great for my knee problem for some reason.

The secret to meditation is breathing. You need to take long deep breaths in and out. I like counting to 8, and timing it with my heartbeat.

focusing on your breathing is probably the best way to get into your 'trance'. I also find when I'm breathing I imagine my body sinking into my bed with each breath.

can't really say meditation has helped my life, I only really know how to do it because it helps me fall asleep when I have trouble with it.

I'm a pretty happy go lucky guy though so there is that.

I don't think meditation is going to be the quick-fix for your life you've been looking for. Changing your life isn't as easy as doing a couple breathing excersizes and thinking good thoughts. Changing a part of who you are can take years, if you're just overly stressed/depressed it could help though.

I've been extremely stressed here recently, i've been trying to find a job going on.... about 6 or 7 months now. I finally got one today, so that is going to reduce the amount of stress I have by quite a bit.

You have to learn how to meditate? I figured it was really simple and all you had to do was... nothing... =D

Unless of course there is something much more to it that I'm not aware of.

Anything to help another fellow Lovecraftian!

Personally, I would, in fact, try to relax and let my brain rest for a while, but I wouldn't call that meditation. I have never practiced any form of meditation, so I am unaware of the procedures and possible outcomes of such a daily practice.

Unfortunately, I myself have been struggling for stress for the last seven years of my life, so I can't be of much help here.

Why don't you try visiting Innsmouth? I hear it's a lovely town and the people are friendly.
