Hey all

So on Wednesday I'm going to a Kurt Rosenwinkel show, who's my favorite living guitarist. Apparently, my guitar teacher knows him to some extent so hopefully I'll get to get backstage and meet him after the show. I can not tell you how freaking excited I am to meet him. He is, as you can guess, one of my idols.

Anyways, who are your guy's and gal's idols? And have you ever met them/what were they like if you did?

If I could meet Neil DeGrasse Tyson or Obama I'd probably have a hissy fit.

Basically it would just be me squealing.

Especially in the case of Tyson...holy shit I'd talk his ear off. I'd hope it was some sort of award thing where I get 12 hours of questioning or I fear he might escape all my many astrophysics questions!

In the case of Obama I just want to meet him. I don't care if he ends up not being the messiah of politics (as if he could with half the government trying to destroy him) but as a person he just intrigues me. That level of charisma is almost intoxicating at times.

Oh man...now you got me dreaming.

I got to see Lewis Black live (in a small venue too) which was really cool. Though I didn't get to actually talk with him or anything.

Oh man, Tyson would be awesome to meet. I saw him on Fora.tv, the Daily Show and some talk show. He's one of the most interesting people I've ever seen speak, and funny as hell to boot.

I work in the music industry and actually have met most of the few idols that I had. Because of this, I don't have idols anymore. Ignorance is definitely bliss where this sort of thing is concerned, you're a lot better admiring your idols from afar than getting too close to them and finding out all those things you really were better off not knowing... don't do it, people...

The fact that more people don't know who he is is one of the worlds' greatest current intellectual tragedies.

Every minute of video I've seen about him has been a pleasure. One of my favorite lines is "The universe doesn't care if you don't understand." I might find the fora video where he says it, it was one of the funnier and more brutally honest things I've heard him say.

Hmmm... Can't say that I really have an idol. But I do have a few comedians that I would like to meet and trade jokes with... so... close enough. Robin Williams, Lewis Black, Bill Cosby (unless he's stuck in "Kids Say the Darnedest Things" mode), and George Carlin (well, if he weren't already dead, oh well).

In 2001 my family went to New York City for New Years. My aunts Alicia and Mabel and I to get tickets to a Knicks game and we got some really good sets in the front row. A few minutes after the game starts a man with curly black hair sit down in the seat next to me with a bunch of other people. Being the well discipline 8 year old I was I automatically said hello. "Hi" says the man back. "This is my first basketball game" I said. "Well then I hope you like it" said the man as he tunred away to talk to the person siting next to him. It wasn't until this man spoke to me that my aunts Alicia and Mabel froze up and began to act strange. I had no idea what was going on, so I just enjoyed watching the game while I did what any child does when sitting in a seat and their feet don't touch the floor.

It wasn't until after the game when everyone we were getting into the car that my aunt Mabel turned to me and asked "Susan... do you know who you sat next to"? My response dictated i hadn't a clue. My aunts look at eachother, then at me. My aunt Alicia said "you were sitting next to Howard Stern".

I had no idea who Howard Stern was at the time, but nowadays I wish I had known who he was so I might ask have for an autograph.

I guess my idol would be Patrick Roy, but I have never thought about this question before, so I'll have to put some thought into it.

Hmmm, see I've met a lot of the people that I've been really interested in. I guess, if I could, I'd probably want to sit down with some fairly prolific authors and talk about their ideas with them. The usual would top the list - Rowling, Pratchett, Lewis, Tolkien, Stevenson, Leroux... perhaps even Eszterhas (because American Rhapsody is the best political book I've ever read).

Being purely shallow, though, I'd love to have a chat with David Tennant, Robert Carlyle and Patrick Stewart.

I apparently didn't put enough thought into this post, I let my giddy schoolgirl excitement get the better of me at the thought of meeting the man.

I'd also love to meet Ray Bradbury

I actually met one of my idols in the spring. I was going to go out drinking with my buddy, then he calls me and goes, 'hey you wanna go bowling.' I was like, 'sure they have beer there why not.' Then he goes, 'oh yeah and Travis Pastrana is coming too.' That's when I screamed like a little girl. He's been my idol since he raced 80cc. Long story short, we bowled, laughed, and drank alot of tequila.

I don't know if I'd care to meet anyone besides comedians. Comedians are fucked up just like me!!!!! Yeah nevermind, probably a bad idea on second thought. Besides, I have to die to meet George Carlin.

Have I met anyone? Not personally but I've talked to Mike Rowe from dirty jobs on the phone. He was drinking at my bro's bar in Baltimore because Discovery's offices are there. Wasn't a big deal. He's cool, and also sings at the bar when he's fucked up.

My other brother is buddies with Dead Maus. I have friends that can get me backstage at Dethklok because one guy in the band (murderface I think) is someone's relative.

I'd like to meet Bill Maher or Keith Olbermann and ***** about politics for like an hour.

I'd love to meet either Vic Mignogna or John Barrowman, mostly for the fact they seem to be the type that if you hugged them, they'd hug you back.

Other than that, if I met Amanda Palmer, I'd try and elope with her.
