So I just broke up with my boyfriend and I would like to move on. I want to meet people outside my new social group that my old boyfriend is part of. I have been able to get along with him sense we broke up. I like to meet people in person and find a friendship with them before we start dating. Any suggestions? Thank You.

spread your wings I guess. Are you in a school/University or work environment at the moment?

Join something?
Be it some kind of sports club you enjoy or a gym?
It could be a union of sorts ?

I just signed up with EWB (Engineers Without Borders) and plan on taking up fencing this fall.
What do you know, two new groups of people just by doing something I feel like doing.

If you're attending any form of school, it'll be more than easy. If you're employed you may also be able to find a different group to start hanging out with, assuming you get along with any co-workers enough to consider it. As mentioned above, going to the gym is another possibility.

There's also the chance you could be introduced to a few new social groups by hanging out with any current friends. Most often people have a few different social groups, all you need to do is get out there a little, socialize more, and if you'd like, mention that you're looking to expand your group of friends. It's important to avoid pushing too much, otherwise you may find yourself hanging out with people you don't really get along with simply for the sake of hanging out with someone.

If it's school then it shouldn't be too difficult to find some new friends. Just find people like-minded and work from that. Uni and work might be a bit tougher but unis often have groups for various things, such as anime, music, video games etc and you should be able to find one with your iterests and you'll get along with them. Work I don't really know but if you apply the same logic then it should work.

Food always helps, but just remember- if you want a relationship, its usually up to you to make it possible. If you meet someone you can get along with, get their contact info first thing.

I'd suggest coffee shops; you can eat, study in a fresh environment and find new people. It was great for me.

If you are in school then this is pretty simple/easy (relatively speaking).

If you aren't then you should look around where you live for different social events or groups that are you interested and some such. Also, I don't get out much myself, but you can meet people pretty much anywhere really. Stores, bars, coffee shops (as Erana mentioned), etc. If you are out and about and you notice some sort of opening to talk to somebody you don't know, go for it. Within reason of course.

A clean and friendly break up? I congratulate you! When I broke up with my ex, I was accused of being a whore. Ironically, he was the one who manipulated me out of my virginity.

No I have graduated from college and now work. The thing is I found a social gaming group/club. After about a month or so of going to this group/club that is when he asked me out. We dated for 5 months. I am not going to leave that gaming group have friends in it that are not his, but I do not really have much time to go out and find a new circle right now. I also know that two other guys in the club have an interest in me, I am not going to think about dating them too weird. I also do not want to go into the night clubs just hoping to meet people.

Sorry I did not give enough information.
Thank you all for the replies so far.

I'm still of the opinion clean breakups are a hollywood myth, like soul mates and Hugh Grant. Hell I'm still of the opinion that girls that can love a guy who isn't awesomely attractive, and not be complete mentalists is a hollywood myth. Sorry to hear your ex was a prick. I know how it feels, my ex when we broke up told people I had tried to rape her, pretty much same circumstances for what actually happened.

grumbling over, OT, OT: I found some of the people I'm closest to at the minute just came about from saying hi during a lunch break when I was doing a summer job. I got on really well with them and I'm living with a couple of the guys next year. It really is that simple!
