I watch a stupid amount of T.V. and something I want to point out as a gold star is Adventure Time, and Regular Show. I haven't seen the kind of quality cartoon that these are since Courage: the cowardly dog, Samurai Jack, uh... the original Ed, Edd, and Eddy? They handle some underlying adult themes with overzealous immagination, outlandish animation, whatever.
Finn and Jake seem to wake up in the morning and if nothing instantly engages them in an adventure they set out with the Iron Will to make one, damn it! Kingdom has a problem that has a simple solution? Hell with that, there's weird shit from the surrounding countryside, surrounding dimension, or what other acid trip we can shove into here. Well, actually acid is a bit too harsh. The show has more of a mushroom feel. It's animation takes from the "we're animated, we can do ANYTHING!!" school of art. They pull in the story from the writers of FLCL, where everything has a odd dream feel to it. Chipper voicing and happy attitudes. When all else fails Jake turns into something wierd and Finn whips out a sword and a battle cry. Oh, there's also the most hillarious love triangle of all time. It's awesome, and everyone should give it a shot.
Mordecai and Rigby on the otherhand wake up like I do. I myself am a 22 year old slacker, and am sure alot of people are. They live out of a house that belongs to their work, which they fail to do, not for lack of trying, but from trying to go above and beyond. Mordecai acts as the anchor "everyman" and is paired up with Seth Rogan in every movie he's in. They always have that just got high voice, movement, mannerisms,.... blah blah blah. Otherwise it would be a boring show but the supporting characters and hijinks they force into M&R's lives take some new adult stoners to a slice of unreal they jump on to escape their own mediocre lives. Bensen, their boss, is a walking talking gumball machine, with a super strict attitude, and I shit you not, an internet porn habit. Skipps is an albino gorilla that, well, skips to walk, and made a deal with the Gods of Youth to have Eternal Youth. Whatever, I think it's wicked deep. The ironically named "Muscle Man" is actually just some overwieght douche with an uncontrolable urge to end everything in a "My Mom" joke. Not "your mom". "My mom", because she's just better like that. He also come equiped with a silent partner, to be the second in a team that does the work M&R should be doing, named High Five Ghost, or Fives, for short. He is a pacman ghost with a single hand. With which to high five. Hence the name. Another character is in the show but doesn't have any particular funny habit's or what ever is Pops. It doesn't matter.
Anybody who is still reading this, go check 'em out. They are so worth the watch, it's unreasonable. Even if you don't split your sides like my "special" ass does they'll leave you with a smile and a positive outlook.
Hey my brain looks like that!
