Lately though, I've been listening to Opeth and remembering how much I love them.
Fuck yeah.
Yeah, it's like a real infant genre. Those guys are decent musicians but nothing special (the other bands in the genre are by and large, even worse), though they are definitely onto something and proves that the two genres can mix (even if they haven't found the exact sweet spot). I just can't wait until a band with the required musical knowledge finds the sweet spot between trance and metal and nails it - it will be truly something to behold if you are a fan of trance as well as metal.Vet2501 said:That just sounded like such a bastardisation, but damn I think this might just grow on me.Zeriah said:*snip*
Hmm I see what you mean, still something about them doesn't quite click with me, though the metallica one sounded quite good, I might look into them more.Novskij said:Kaaaa-snip
Just commenting to say you have awesome taste... I liked pretty much every single song there...Furburt said:Sigh.
Alrighty, my favourite genre of metal is Stoner Metal. Basically Black Sabbath style doom, heavied up a ton and with a nice hit of psychedelia. Overlaps a bit with doom metal.
Here's some nice examples.
Favourite metal band is from a different genre though, Godflesh. They're more Industrial.
I'm not a huge fan of most industrial music, but Godflesh is so good.
Oh OM is probably my favorite straight up Doom band. Again, awesome taste.Furburt said:Why thank you my man!Bored Tomatoe said:snip
I notice you like High On Fire, who are very good indeed. The singer/guitarist of HOF is also the guitarist of Sleep, Matt Pike.
You might like another band formed from the ashes of Sleep too, Om. They're just bass and drums, but it's very hypnotic.
I would say the amount of 'metals' is increasing everyday, somewhere on this earth. Even if you just add the country from which an instrument used in the band is from in front of it's original sub-genre, that's a whole new sub-genre! For example Brazilian Metal (Because it has a vuvuzela in it).Fallen-Angel Risen-Demon said:-snip-
Note: would do this as a poll but there are too many variatios of metal 28 is it?
