Metal Gear Solid: the Musical

Hi all,

I don't post much, but I just read an article about turning MGS into a musical (the article is here, if anyone's interested: http://readingnews.org/tech_intui/article.php?id=824 ). I'm fairly certain it's a spoof, but nevertheless, it got me thinking: there are some games that I think would work quite well as musicals. This is musical video games, by the way, that use music and song as an integral part of the gameplay, rather than stage musicals.

I agree with the article that MediEvil would be quite good: I also think BioShock could work quite well. Anyone else? What games do you think would benefit from a song and dance?

Musicals are for me the most atrociously boring and cringe-worthy productions around. But hey, what do I know?

If they do unfortunately go through with such a production of MGS, they better have some good cardboard box jokes.

I would totally watch a Starcraft Musical if they ever made one. It would be EPIC!

It does sound like a spoof, to be honest, so I doubt it'll become a reality, but it might've been good for a couple of cheap laughs.

They'd better pull it off flawlessly though, or there will be a lot of angry MGS fans around. :S

What games would work well?
Any with a good story, sure, but...
I'm not sure how well some of the more "gory" games could translate to the stage...

I think a musical game would be fantastic. Metal Gear Solid? No. Never. But I would love to see a musical made into a game. Musicals are actually a fascinating form of storytelling, so to make an interactive one would actually be an intriguing concept. Assuming it's done right...

Thaius - that's what I was getting at. I think the article raises some nice ideas, like individual enemies that you're fighting singing parts of the song, and stopping when they die, and I think there's a lot of scope for other cool stuff. Like boss fights being duets between you and the boss.

I do like the idea of a StarCraft musical. Dynasty Warriors could also be suitably epic.

Frankly, I love musicals. I also love Metal Gear Solid...if the two were to merge I would live out the rest of my life singing and dancing through the streets of the UK spreading the good news that there is a God and that he/she made the best musical of all time.
