I got it on pre-order (woo) and having just completed it on easy, i think its a great game.
+ For a mainly tunnel based game, its bloody atmospheric
+ Weapon mods are pretty interesting and useful if you get the right ones for you
+ Mutants; pig/giant cat, hippo/flying rat, dog/The Thing/human with massive neck etc...strange...
+ Ammo (and especially medkits) are kinda rare and slow health regeneration makes it pretty challenging
+ The surface levels (ie not underground) are catastrophically awesome. Fallout 3 landscapes were very good n all but due to F3's size, couldnt pull off the detail of post-apocalyptic landscapes like Metro.
+ The inclusion of recharging your equipment means you dont take light for granted.
+ Fighting mutant gorrila librarians!!!
- Checkpoints instead of save/load meaning that you could cross a checkpoint with your gas mask one punch away from breaking open and there isnt much you can do about it
- If you dont have a HD tv, reading your journal/marketplace text will be difficult
- Having to recognise bullets/cartridges from their base to determine ammo quantity
- The player character only resets his watch timer for when he puts the gas mask on, not with new filters
- Finally, and personally, the game would have benefitted greatly from having a 180 degree turnaround button to make fire-fights faster
In my opinion Metro 2033 is gritty, immersive, looks great and had a lot of thought go into it and the negatives dont mar the game too much. What do you people reckon?
