I confess, I am some degree of a Playstation fanboy and a Metal Gear Solid franchise fanboy. So I was moderatly upset when I found out my favorite game of all time (Metal Gear Solid 3) would be going to the 3DS, and more disgustingly, the company I hold a certain level of contemp for, Nintendo.

However, I recall how Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes for Gamecube was a complete massacre of the game in favour of showing off the hardware (hands holding a gun shaking subtly to show nervousness? Screw that, karate fight now!). I think the same thing will happen with the 3DS version, with the brilliance of the game being obscured by close ups of random things just to needlessly show of the 3D aspect.

Thoughts?

You know you could always just wait for the MGS collection for the PS3 that's coming out, seeing as it comes with MGS3 on it. That way you don't need a 3DS and no gimmicky 3D crap either. That and if you plan on getting the PSVita, you can transfer the games from the MGS collection from the PS3 over to the Vita and play it on the go with 2 analog sticks and again, no 3D.

Of course this only applies if you own a PS3, but still.

Really who gives a crap, what the hell does it matter to you? You would rather keep a large number of fans away from a game they want to play on a system of their choosing out of sheer fanboyism and random contempt for one of the greatest game companies to have ever existed?

If you don't like it, you don't have to play it. You don't have to troll about it.

I'm just worried about the controls. The pressure sensitivity of the PS2 controller brought a certain... something to the experience. I loved the ability to lean based on how hard one held the triggers, but...
If Hiimdaisy has taught me anything, I wasn't the only one who accidentally committed russian scientist genocide while attempting to interrogate them.

Metal Gear did start on the Famicom and NES, so Twin Snakes and MGS 3D are really just bringing the series back to its roots with Nintendo.

Not to mention Metal Gear Solids 2, 3, and Peace Walker are coming to the 360. You can hate all you want, but this will be good for people who want to experience classic titles in the series but do not find the Playstation appealing. There's nothing wrong with expanding the audience to other platforms.

Also, how was Twin Snakes a disaster when you're only negative criticism of it was "hands holding a gun shaking subtly to show nervousness"?

EDIT: Metal Gear did start on the MSX2, but the NES version was the one that made the series popular.

Bullcrap. It started on the MSX2. A bastardised port made behind Kojimas back was on the NES and Famicon, and its gone down in history as one of the worst ports ever. Hell, they screwed up Metal Gear on the NES so much, Metal Gear Soli Twin Snakes looks good by comparison.
Yeah, but the original Metal Gear was only released in Japan. It's unfortunate that the NES port was the one that became popular, but at least it was good enough to become one of the most popular games on that system.

Of course Metal Gear's success with Western audiences spawned the shitstorm that was Snake's Revenge, but what was good about that game's failure was that it made Kojima interested in producing a true Metal Gear sequel. One of the development staff from Snake's Revenge even asked Kojima to make a better game. That's how we got Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.

For better or worse, the franchise wouldn't be where it is today without the NES.

I seriously doubt that. Metal Gear 2 is the sort of game that would've come along regardless of Snakes Revenge. The original was a big hit for Konami in Japan, and the story warranted a sequel.

I think the NES had very little to do with Metal Gears success.
If you don't believe me, here's a quote from the Metal Gear Wiki.

Hideo Kojima, who was not planning on making a sequel to Metal Gear due to the relatively low sales of the MSX2 version in Japan, was unaware of the development of the game until he ran into a member of the Snake's Revenge development staff during a train ride in Tokyo. The developer told Kojima that he knew Snake's Revenge wasn't an "authentic Snake [game]", and was a fan of the original game, so he made a request to Kojima for the development of a true Metal Gear sequel.

I can't speak for the TC, but I personally loathed Twin Snakes because of all the revisions to the voicework and cutscenes that they did. There were so many awesome lines of dialogue or gripping scenes from the original MGS that they either revamped, drew out, or scrapped, and it only ticked me off. Nothing was more egregious to me than the way they changed the ending.

MGS: Solid and Liquid are in jeeps, Liquid yells "It's not over yet!" and you have a gun fight. At the end, you crash into one another. Solid and Meryl are pinned under their jeep, and they wonder to one another "What happened to Liquid? I can't see him" and all of a sudden Liquid ambles into view. Yells "Snaaaaaaaake!" as he shuffles towards them. As he raises his gun, all of a sudden, it hits - "Fo..." he gasps, as he can barely say the word, which echoes in an awesome way. "Fox?" he repeats. "Die." Solid responds, with a similarly awesome echo. Liquid falls face down. He barely reaches an outstretched arm towards Solid, but with the sound of a gavel banging (sort of), Liquid dies. Tight. Sweet. Memorably epic.

Twin Snakes: Same jeep sequence, only "It's not over yet!" is yelled differently. Then Solid does his best Max Payne and/or Neo impression and does a barrel roll, dodging bullets in bullet-time. Then he flips into Liquids jeep, punches him in the face, and then the jeeps overturn because... they turn too hard? Snake and Meryl get up completely fine, only to be met with poorly aimed bullets from a distance. Solid says "Damn." Liquid whispers "Snake." Then it hits - Liquid gets a tummy ache. He doubles over. The camera spins around him several times, and he looks up at Solid and asks, "Fox?" Solid responds "Die." Liquid falls to his knees, then on his face. Is he dead? Nope, he then somehow reaches up, then stands all the way up again, to look Solid in the face, pause, exchange glances, and THEN drop dead. Drawn out. Over-stylized. Excessive.

Seriously, that remake bugged the crap out of me.
