i got MGS4 and i really liked it, i loved the gameplay and the cut-scenes. I had never played another MGS before so i thought that i would play them all before i finished MGS4 and i am currently doing that. i went an bought MGS2+3 for £15 ($25.50) but unfortunatly i dont have 1 because its not on UK PSN yet and id rather have it on my PSP.

im now a massive fan of the series and ive completed MGS2 with only 7 alerts (7 more than i wanted) but nonetheless still a good first attempt

im currently playing 3 and i prefer it to the others (gameplay wise), since the story is losly based on the truth (cuban missile crisis) it also makes it more believable. the boss fights are superb and the numerous ways to take down 'the end' amaze me (yes, i posted a thread on these forums, youve probably seen it floating around).

all in all, the series is one of the best series in gaming however ironically the game that brought me to the series (MGS4) is my least prefered as i think its went away from the Tactical espionage action (or TEA as i like to call it) and is just about action. more precisly Drebin has ruined the series with enough guns to take over australia. what ever happened to finding guns in a locker, in the other games i was lucky if i found a SVD or an AK47 but thats the appeal (IMO) BUT snake will use anything that comes to hand as an advantage.

are you a fan of the series?
whats your favourite addition to the series?
what do you like about the series?

P.S if there is anything about MGS you would like to post then feel free, i wouldve added a poll but i think its too impersonal

Since I played them all in order from the 2nd one (i didn't play the first either but I read the synopsis on Wikipedia, which still counts) I like 4 the best.

I would even go so far as to say it is my favorite game of all time.

I've played all of the Metal Gear series (except the REALLY old ones) and I think that MGS3 is the best MGS. amazing gameplay, fantastic bosses, emotional characters, absolutely phenomenal. Especially emotional at the last scenes.

I have 'played' them all. I have only finished MGS3. It was the best, in my opinion.

MGS1: nearly finished, but PS2 broke.

MGS2: Get stuck on the frickin' swimming bit with Emma, gave up.

MGS4: Played it a few times at a friends, as he owns a PS3, didn't feel very sneaky.

Very difficult question.

I'm not sure, MGS4 had mind blowing action, but the ending of MGS3 was one hell of a ride.

MGS2: the bit with emma is so close to the end, another hour or so and youd be finished. i do agree, that bit annoyed the hell out of me. i really hate games where you have to swin underwater *cough* tomb raider *cough*. i loved the story in MGS2 though

MGS4: yeah, its not very sneaky. Drebin basically gives you free guns and ammo

i think they are all good, im looking forward to rising and peacewalker

The Originally MGS drew out some of the best gameplay features I have ever encountered i an game... but the again, MGS 3 Snake Eater was so intense and seamingless fun, that I forgot all about the original one. And the final battle just blew my mind... So much space, so many possibilities, all for that perfect shot :)

It must be number 3 for me

I am not a big fan of the series, but I think that over all MGS3 just had more stuff in it. 4 was good, but ever one that have played both usually says that 3 was the better metal gear.

having only played up to 3 (there's a PS3 in my house, but the person who actually owns it doesn't wanna buy MGS4 and I got no money...)

I'd have to say that 3, despite being a bit cheesey (with the whole theme-song and everything) is my favourite, they really seemed to flesh out the idea of stealth with that one.

I've played all of them except for MG: Solid Snake(Because it wasn't released in the US), and I have to say that Snake Eater is my favorite.

Because it made me cry.

Metal Gear Solid is the best. Of course, the nostalgia-factor plays a part here. I was still young, playing this fascinating game with, seemingly, unlimited possibilities. The awesome characters, the great music, the gameplay, thosedamnedwolvesbeforeSniperWolf. Metal Gear Solid was really, really the best one.

I was one of the people who was disappointed with Sons of the Patriots, also because it somehow... eh... 'ruined' some of the mythology for me. I didn't like Raiden. I didn't like Emma. I didn't like Solidus. I did like the Tanker chapter, and the graphics and actual gameplay. Still, despite all of the flaws, it's one of the best PS2 games ever in my honest, elitist opinion.

Snake Eater restored a lot of the mythology, simply because they made Big Boss even more interesting than his sons. The survival aspect was awesome, the easter eggs were once again wonderful, the characters rocked. Great game, still.

Guns of the Patriots... Eh. I recently bought and played it. I loved every minute of it. I really had to the chuckle (I'm a man, I don't have tears) at one point. At that point the best was no longer yet the come. It already came, straight in my face. Yet, at the end of it all, I can't help but feel that Guns of the Patriots was too much 'fan service'. By explaining almost everything they destroyed a bit of the myth, and the mythology.

So, in descending order of greatness: Metal Gear Solid, Snake Eater, Guns of the Patriots, Sons of Liberty.

On a side-note. The original Metal Gear games are frigging hard.

I'd say the first Metal Gear Solid, because it's one of those games I played over and over...

I've played them all myself, and really, MGS4 pretty much took the cake for me. It seemed to be culmination of not just the story but the gameplay as well, taking elements from all the MGS's and bringing them together in a great game.

Metal Gear Solid is one of my top 10 games for sure. Story-wise, everything after just makes me roll my eyes. I will concede that the quality of the games is generally very high though.

Personally, I liked 3 the best. While the story might not be as complex as, let's say, 2, it still was enjoyable and entertaining. The boss fights in 3 were also superb.

MGS 4 was an epic conclusion to an already epic tale, but it lacked in gameplay and the stealth aspect was overshadowed by the massive amounts of lethal firearms.

Still, the series overall was great.

MGS1 : Absolute classic, the first Playstation game I ever got. Incredible

MSG2 : Pretty awesome, lot's of people complained about the storyline, but i think it was really cool. I liked the boss fight at the end too

MSG3 : Intersting boss fights, excellent story with a heart break of an ending. Got annoyed with changing camoflauge every 30 seconds though in order to remain undetected

MGS4 : I don't have a Ps3 :(

But, yeah my faviorite? .... 2. Yes thats right 2 :)

MGS1.

MGS1 was an absolute master stroke, and the series went downhill from there.

MGS2 (not Substance, which was retarded) was a good game, but the characters weren't likeable, the story went a bit wierd...er than normal MGS games.

MGS3 never played it fully, didn't like it too much from what I did play.

MGS4 was awful, I really didn't enjoy much of it. Liked the multiplayer, which was interesting (if not a bit clumsy). Only bit I can say I really liked was when you get to wear the Solid Snake mask and a trenchcoat, and follow the bloke through the streets.
