Overview: Solid Snake's last mission to kill Liquid Ocelot, but due to how he was cloned , his body started to age rapidly. While Ocelot takes over GW and SoP with five major PMC's, Cambell needs Snake to do one final job.
Graphics: Well this is where the game shines, from the opening tv stations to the debris of a bombed out building, everything seems close to realism. Now I'm not saying everything looks realistic, but the graphics help immerse you in the game. Nothing else to say about it except that the graphics show off how the PS3 could be used.
Gameplay: Unlike the other Metal Gear Solids, the gameplay is more accesible. With the additon of crouch walking, there is no more getting stuck in prone, like I do in MGS 2. One problem with the controls was in the opening cinematic of Act 1, where snake rolls on the ground while prone, I tried to learn how to do this and it took me all day to figure it out. That is when I had to go through the in-game manual to find it in the "advanced controls" section. But other than that the game has easy to learn controls. The boss fights were one of the best in the series, because you can use almost every weapon (except for the Screaming Mantis fight) to defeat your enemy in your own way. The Geckos pose threats to influence you to watch not only your movements, but their movements so they don't utterly trample you while mooing. Drebins shop makes the game different when playing different playing styles. If your playing the "Rambo" style, he'll let you buy all the ammo you need. But for the "Perfect Playthrough" (No kills, No Alerts, No Continues) He is a guy for emergencies only, seeing as how it is hard to tranqualize or CQC someone when most enemies are in pairs.
Story: Well this is where it gets hard. The story is great, but for hardcore fans of the Meatl Gear series. Newcomers to the series will probably get so confused that they will skip every cutscene. Even with the flashbacks in the cutscenes, they only serve to people who remember the flashbacks from the other games. Snake really takes the show when I truly felt sorry for him, which has never happened with any character in any game. From the tunnel of microwaves in the last Act, mashing triangle until my arm went tired helped portray the imagery of Snake nearly dieing and becoming so tired that he could almost just stop. Raiden has become a beter character. From his humble beginings as a feminine, wannabe Snake to Gray Fox, the ending really blew my mind. Him reuniting with Rose and meeting his son, really made me feel that Raiden was a good, in depth character. I could go on but then I couldn't write about anything else.
Pros: Great Ending Story, Easier controls, Graphics are Amazing
Cons: nitpicky things like long cutscenes and the install times, which IMO are good for taking a bathroom break or getting food, and uninviting to newcomers.
Final Rating: Buy for hardcore fans and rent to see if you like the gameplay for everyone else. For example, I let my friend to play and he liked the game but he just didn't want to get used to the controls.
