Microsoft E3 games running on PC

Pretty much what the title suggests. It turns out that Microsoft doesn't trust their own hardware to run the games properly, so they had to use a high-end PC with Windows 7 OS.

And we're supposed to trust them with anything they say?

There were already rumors circling around that Microsoft has problems with eSRAM and heating and that maybe they will have to reduce the GPU clock speed.
Seeing this, there's a good chance that these rumors are true. They're probably working on it right now which is why they couldn't have the real thing working on stage. That's pretty disastrous. What the hell is going on at Microsoft? It's like the universe wants Microsoft to fail.

Look on the bright side, maybe this means the wireless X1 controllers work with Windows 7 out of the box.

Does this mean we get Phantom Pain on PC? :D

It's sort of embarrassing but hey, at least it's not Windows 8.

Well, Kojima wants to do it...

Given that Metal Gear Rising is seeing a PC release I don't see why we can't hope!

I thought it was pretty much common knowledge nowadays that pretty much all the stuff at E3 is run on PCs?

I wonder if the switch to x86 architecture will enable games to be much more easily emulated on PCs in the future? It's an interesting thought.

I thought so too, doesn't someone turn this into a controversy every year? Maybe this year it's getting more attention and notoriety because people are ready to jump on Microsoft for every little thing.

Every year at E3, most of the shiny gameplay videos are running on PCs. It's been like that for years, even generations, back to PS2 and Xbox and possibly even before.

You know as long as he didn't take any more photos with that same storage card, he can easily run file retrieval software on it to retrieve the deleted photo.

Here's what I can tell from the pics:

Video card: EVGA GTX 680 (not 780 as the article states, but still pretty damn high-end)
Motherboard: Asus P9X79 series motherboard
CPU: Judging from mobo which is LGA2011 socket, that can only mean an Intel i7 3820 or better CPU. Not cheap!
Cooler: Corsair H80i or H100i.
Case: Corsair Vengeance C70? I think.

Showing a demo or game footage to everyone on the central big screen being powered by a PC is fine, but filling rows of cabinets all labeled "XBox One" with high-end gaming computers for people to actually try out? Sorry but that's fucking pathetic and false advertising by definition.

This isn't actually a big deal at all (except I think they lied about it in the Battlefield 4 case? that would be bad). It's pretty much standard operating procedure to do it like this and it doesn't have any sinister motives or implications behind it.

It doesn't even mean that they don't trust the game to work on their hardware. But during making a game you have insane spec requirements and then you optimise it down so that it all works properly. And programmers I believe, always make the game on PCs (so you can do rendering and use software tools etc) and then putting that code in a complete buildable way on the console is a last step. (I'm not a programmer, this is just what I've heard). When you're asked to demo your game it's very unlikely that the game is finished at that point and so it's much simpler to run it on a PC than it is on the console.

It's also pretty common with games good and bad that they touch up the PC showing to make it look like their target goal that they're aiming to reach on completion of the game but haven't actually reached yet. That's more questionable.

-------------
Running live events showcasing things which are in the middle of messy developments with livefeeds and sound and inputs going everywhere is really difficult. I'm always willing to believe that everything we see is botched together. Like there's no way I believe an Xbox was receiving voice commands whenever they said 'Xbox do X' on stage. In front of a live audience over microphones etc? It's not happening, they wouldn't leave that up to chance. He said Xbox Play Game and then a guy behind the scenes cued the footage. I'm pretty sure the 'live' footage of the Division was faked too, because they had professional scripted voice acting from the players responding to whats happening. It was prerecorded and the people on stage pushing buttons were for show.

Probably the same for that fighting sequence in Killer Instinct too. I don't think they'd risk someone's battery going dead or the wireless not being able to reach. Pre-recorded footage with people mashing dummy controllers

Considering they are using the less game friendly AMD CPUs (better at work than gaming), it means they were not even trying to be true to their own console hardware (except for the borked bits).

Yes it is false advertising. Make sure you spread the good new around on the other forums. Perhaps we may finally get an apoplectic apology from the bastards. Then we can all hit the pubs for that is one of the signs of the apocalypse (M$atan saying sorry).

And this completely wrecks their claims that XbOne ports will require Windows 8. They'll only require it if you program them to shut out Windows 7 you greedy bastards.

This is nothing special. Most games shown at E3 have always run on PC or Macs. Some of the early 360 games were developed on Macs, it was kinda funny to see a Xbox 360 controller plugged into a Macs walking around the show floor.
