Misplaced usefulness in guns

Here's a question: What was the strangest, misplaced usefulness of a gun in a video game that you played?

For example: In Resistance for the PS3 there was a sniper rifle that you could "hold your breath" and slow down time to snipe better. I found out, however, that it was also the single greatest close-up weapons in the game, since the bullet-time feature lasted for so long that I could run up to a guy, slow down time, and get a headshot in nothing flat, killing him instantly.

Any others?

Uhm... Perhaps Demo/rocket jumping? Using the blast damage to launch yourself long distances and then having maps based around that ability where the goal is simply to get from point A to point B. I do quite love Demo jumping...

Not really a weapon at all, but a every companion in Fallout 3, Especially Fawkes. She was strong enough that when I was travelling, I could just leave every enemy I encountered to her and could just keep on going. She even noticed enemies that I didnt, and alerted me when they did, so I could just avoid and keep moving, while she handled everything. It saved me so much time!

First of all....she? I've never heard of anyone refer to Fawkes as a female character before. Second, although Fawkes is super tough and awesome in combat, my friend actually fired him because he was stealing so many kills, preventing my friend from gaining any experience.

OT: I'm not exactly sure what you mean by misplaced usefulness.

Ah, my mistake. I was still confused on the voice actor issue. The actor said that Fawkes was actually a woman, so for a while people thought Fawkes was a woman too. He isnt. But I mean th epoint of the companions is to help you in fights, not let you avoid all of them completely. She was useful in herself, but not really intended in this way, I think.

Not a gun, but a sword. Umbra in Oblivion is a quest item you can turn in to receive another sword, however, Umbra has no weight (as quest items have no weight) and has one of the highest base damages in the game. And it eats souls. Yum. So in reality, keeping it is far better than completing the quest.

Again, not a gun. The binoculars in Project IGI. You could just zoom in on an enemy's head, change to an other weapon and get a headshot for free.

Not one of the highest base damages. THE highest base damage. I got it at an early level (with great difficulty) and used it for the rest of the game.

it's pretty useless when you get to enchanting you're weapons though.
wich can make it easily thrice as strong.

Well you can use a glitch to get one of the conjured sword permanently and it has a higher base damage. Though I guess since it's a glitch it technically doesn't count.

Ah the ol' PSG1 when have you ever let me down?
Ah right...never.

Probably the melee attacks in RE4
It had invincibility frames and the suplex could insta-splode a guys head, so i could run into a crowd, suplex a guy and when his friends try to attack me i take no damage and then they all take 3 steps back as part of the "attack" animation, rinse and repeat.

The orbital laser used in the boss battle in RE5. Its pretty much pointless after the second playthrough as the unlimited rocket launcher insta-kills the boss where as it takes 4 or so shots from the mega space laser to kill it. Pointless

I just got off of a few rounds of Insurgency (a well-done Source Engine multiplayer game) and I noticed how overpowered the RPG and M203 grenade launcher was.

Accurate over long distances, huge splash damage, quick reload time, and you have a lot of RPGs/grenades.
