Modem error message

Hi. I am using a Speedtouch 330 modem, using windows vista 64-bit. I have started getting error 692: there is a hardware failure in the modem (or other connecting device) this is an intermittent problem, and is really Irritating me.

I have talked to Orange tech support, and they have basically told me to reinstall the modem...about 5 times now, that and the phone calls are costing me money.

Does anyone have any ideas how do fix this problem?

While I'm not an electrician, if it's intermittent, I'd guess it's a fault with a wire. As in, it transfers the data when in one position (or is properly plugged in) but when moved stops. I had that issue with headphones a while back.

Just a suggestion, no idea how likely it actually is. Move the wires around a bit.

Sounds like a hardware fault as Molikroth said. Consider ringing them again and asking for a replacement.
