I was playing Pixeljunk Shooter 2 last night and was making audible pleas for mercy. "Why? I want to go to bed! This sucks! Aaaahh." I think at one point I almost pulled out the catchphrase "This sucks monkey butts." Long ass multi-step levels with no checkpoints, irritating "powerups" that you have to use but control like shit, and enemies that pop out RIGHT when you're done that kill you in one hit, thus forcing you to do the entire fucking thing all over again. Horse shit. I like hard games, I swear I do, but games that pointlessly waste your time with bullshit are the bane of my existence.

Any other games out there with cheap tactics designed to make you pointlessly do over what you just did again and again?

I generally have a good eye for video games so the only games I ever end getting that are "bad" are the ones that are just ok but disappointing. So no not really. The closest I've gotten is ME3's ending, but I'm not gonna go into another rant on that one :)

I have had moments in persona 3 where I've very nearly thrown my controller out the window, and yelled at the TV. Some of the bosses are stupidly difficult. The Hell Knight in Tartarus killed me like 15 times before I got Surt and just Mind Charge+ Megidola'd its ass. Same tactic worked wonders on Jin and Takaya.
Also, Dr Fetus in Super Meat boy. Even on light world this took me at least 200 tries, and around 3 hours in real time. It wasn't enough to make you run a really long, really hard level; no, the devs then made you do it again backwards. And Cotton Alley is probably the reason why i haven't touched the game recently; nothing is worth that sort of pain.

Skyward Sword for sure. The first 5 hours of that game made me so angry that I put it down and never touched it again. Overly dependent on precise motion controls that are actually not that precise, bird flying is infuriating, the parachute precision trial killed my soul, the graphics belong in the N64, weird camera angles that have me repositioning it every 2 seconds, maze-like level design without a constant on-screen minimap, according to my calculation there is an 85% chance that it's time for more HIDDEN BULLSHIT DOWSING. Fuck this game.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
I liked the story, liked the characters, in fact I liked everything but the... Here it comes. The combat.

The cover system was very annoying and more often than not you'd roll onto the wrong side of the cover, for example, you want to get behind a box, but instead Drake sits down next to the side. And given the fact that enemies kill you fast, like really fast, it's already over.

For some reason enemies require a ton of bullets to take down, have unlimited grenades and are bloody everywhere.

And the best part? I was playing on normal, there are two difficulties harder than that. Yeah, I'm not touching those.

Yeah, what was up with those graphics? I understand the art direction, but making the game look like the fuzzy filler cardboard background textures from N64 games in not what I'd consider a smart choice. Parts of Majora's Mask were more visually appealing and they specifically changed that look when Ocarina came out on the 3DS. Be glad you quit after five hours because the last boss fight depends on those "precise" controls and it all completely falls apart.

Oh and that thing where you have to stop that blob from climbing up the circular pit? (I don't know if you even got to that part.) You have to do it like four or five times, getting harder and cheaper every single time. Seriously, that was probably the absolute worst of the console 3D Zeldas.

And why were the bird controls like that? Analog sticks are designed to control planes.

Alien vs Predator on 360, I fucking hate that game. If playing a game actually gives you motion sickness then something has gone wrong.

I agree and I actually preferred Phantom Hourglass to this. I know it gets a lot of hate, and the repetitive "main temple" was a terrible, terrible concept, but at least there wasn't a whole bunch of shit getting in the way between the player and the game. Before they even think of releasing a new Zelda game, they need to burn their existing design philosophy and mechanics to the fucking ground and come up with a fresh approach, one that does not serve as merely a way to pimp out bullshit Nintendo gimmicks. They need to rebuild this series from the ground up, otherwise I personally am not going anywhere near it again.

Gears of War 3.
I could take the first one because it wasn't trying to be anything other than "Okay guys we all done our work outs? We all got our guns and our roid rage on? HURAH! Let's go shoot things!" and the gameplay was new and exciting, the levels were at least diverse. It was honest with itself and us. And honestly is the most cinematic experience I have ever had with a video game.
But 3 uuugh. I don't want to rage all over the place again so I'll just leave it at, horrible, clunky, tired, pretentious, half brained, GARBAGE!

Fable 2.
There is no way they spent 4 years on this game, there is just no way. Fable 1 was good(By just one step over the decent line) and had laid out the basic foundation to build upon and create something great but... somehow they made Fable 2 less then what Fable The Lost Chapters was.
And that useless dog *eye twitch o_O*

Tenchu Z.
Dear mother flipping hell! Out of all they could have done when taking Tenchu to the next gen.
With all the work that had been done in stealth mechanics since Wrath of Heaven and we get this lazy, half assed excuse for a video game! And they had the nerve to charge full price for this god awful excuse for a Tenchu game! That takes stones considering that they only ever made about 5 levels for the games and simply recycled them 15 times each! And the recycling didn't stop there, they did the same with the enemies. For every time you revisited a location on a new mission your old vanquished target would be resurrected and be recolored and passed off as a new character. That?s right they pulled the old MK ninja on us.
But hey that could be over looked if the stealth was good right? Well you know what the stealth was pretty good though the levels weren?t designed well enough to provide any challenge really(The levels o_O!!!).

I actually liked how the open ended sandbox levels allowed you to slip past every guard and sneak into your targets room or house and cut their throat without any of his guards having a clue.

Only one problem though. The game penalised you no NO DAMNED you for taking such a stealthful approach. That?s right if you didn?t massacre every single ?living? person minus the innocent Geisha?s wandering about, then the game would rate you as dirt! For, you know, being stealthful in a STEALTH GAME!

The levels were god awful, the story in this game was better at hiding than I was, they took no advantage of the power that the 360 provided, nor did they implement any mechanics from the newer stealth (Okay shadows and sound sensitivity...y kind of)
The music, hah what music. They couldn?t even be bothered to have the models flap their mouths open and shut as if they were robots during cutscenes. That?s right, think of any PS1 custcene and just imagine it rendered in Xbox graphics and that?s what you had here.

Okay I?m done.

(Was that Angry Video Game Nerdesque enough? I haven't seen anything of his really. If not just let me know and I will delete this post)

And there's the blue room.... oh how I fucking hate the blue room and the area with the plane stuck in the trees. Those two scripted sets are so fucking brutal that I had to take significant breaks on my crushing playthrough. Once you pass those two spots, the rest is more or less easy if not tedious.

The Fable series. I want to fill my discs full of rusty nails sometimes.
Except the first one. I loved that game.
Also: hacking in Alpha Protocol. Just, no.
And Fortune Summoners: Secret of the Elemental Stone has bits that make me want to flip every table in the house.

Super goddamn Meatboy made me rage a lot...

Also, for anyone who played Persona 3, imagine going up 9 floors, beating a boss, looking for a teleporter to to the ground level and getting killed by a cheap insta-kill move you couldn't dodge...rage was unleashed that day...
If you think thats hard , play SMT: Nocturne , you'll break the disc in two . But your right , instakills + unable to control team = rage time .

OT : Catherine . On normal mode made me rage so hard . Great game, fun game , i recomend it .

I know what you're talking about and the first time I played Skyward Sword I had the same reaction: Wtf is this, i hate it, it sucks.

Then I played in again and, for some unknown reason, the second time I played it I loved it. I was so much fun. I'm not sure what changed my mind, but I can't help but think I was just being close-minded about the whole Wii aspect. It's actually a good game, in my opinion.

Also, I loved Phantom Hourglass. I loved the control scheme, oddly enough, and I loved that I could basically have a Wind-Waker-with-vastly-improved-overworld-on-the-go.

I liked Spirit Tracks, but it felt so contrived.

OT: If you want an oddball for Zelda, look no further than Four Swords. Boy, that was boring...

So:

Zelda: Four Swords
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. BORING BORING BORING FRUSTRATING BORING
Mario Kart: Double Dash was a bit of an oddball... but it was still fun with friends
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood never really accomplished anything and was just a boring game
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. I dont even need to explain why Oblivion is a broken, goofy game

I'm on board with the previous Skyward Sword posts. I can't stand the controls, the worst section for me was the underwater part with the Water Dragon, it made me suicidal. I made it up to the Three Sacred whatever backtracking stuff and I just stopped caring and haven't played since.

Another issue I have with the game is that everything looks peaceful and unharmed. I found little conflict within that game's world and I had zero motivation to save Zelda for the 9000th time. Also, the graphics look like a step back from previous Zeldas. Skyward Sword's aesthetic is boring for me. Everything just has this faded pastel color scheme, I actively tried looking for visual changes within the game and failed to find any. The whole world is static 24/7.

Oh God I almost forgot the whole Dowsing mechanic...

It depends on a game.
If it's a single-player game, and I suck at it, I after a while of screaming "Goddamn bullshit!", I come to conclusion that I simply suck at the game, and it's time to change difficulty or my approach to it. And that's how I come to like The Witcher 2, by changing the approach. I won't play it on the "One death = the end" mode, but even the highest difficulty is enjoyable.

If it is a multi-player game... Uh, ha. That's a different story. Totally different story. Surrounded by other "people" playing this game, I tend to rage at other people for doing ( by my opinion ) everything wrong.
I can tell when I am carried by the team, but sometimes... Jeez. Seems like I am playing with band of wild monkeys in my team. Of course it only appears in more team based games or game-modes, when teamwork should be a key, and I am dumb enough to believe it.
That's why after few totally bad matches in BF3 or I am just starting to do dumb shit... or just press alt+F4.

There is also a third territory. Place, where end games that I expected to be good or great... Or even beyond that. Here I can rage about two things. Game being horrible, and my stupidity that led me into believing that the game will be awesome. It will be no surprise for anyone that is still reading this that Mass Effect 3 ended there.

Prototype. I never played 2 after the abomonation that was the first one. It lived up to it's name alright.

I tend to rage at the Uncharted series a lot because, while the narrative is pretty good, and the visuals are alright, the gameplay is severly lacking in depth. Getting killed 100 times just to walk down another corridor to shoot 50 people and get some wise cracks isn't exactly fun anymore. Puzzles are pretty standard and straightforward and boring too
