Modern Warfare 3 could have been amazing

I played through the main campaign and logged sixteen hours on xbox live, finding both of these disappointing. Instead of just complaining about it though, I would like to suggest some improvements to the campaign and multiplayer.

For the campaign, people have already pointed out that massive setpiece explosions are getting repetitive and boring. Just spacing out these moments might help out the story part of the game. Another expected part of the COD campaign is the "crawling using triggers with a bloody screen showing ALL the dedication" moment. But even when you are taking down the terrorist threat, the AI for both russians and randoms is pretty much the same, and they even use the same weapons (found a few PP90M1's on random bad guys). Ok, AK-47's ARE used by the russian military and is a widely distributed weapon, but there is little to no distinction to what separates a well founded military and a bunch of thugs-for-hire. I fail to see how a trained military and guns for hire have the same chance of stopping one man.

To improve the campaign, I would add a little bit of choice. Just a little bit of leeway as to how many options there are to finish a level can make a big difference. Some choice during a "no russian" level would be great, and a more complex issue during the shocking part could be impressive. For example, there could be a level where you are fighting through a suburban area armed with only a handgun, where you come across a group of resistance fighters. Mixed up in the resistance, you find a ten year old armed with an assault rifle, ready to jump in the front lines like all the other good soldiers fighting for their country. Do you take his gun to complete your desperately important mission, or do let him keep it so he can defend freedom?

The multiplayer aspect of the game is more opinion then anything, but I found it to be frustrating, hectic, and pretty much all over the place. It's not very fun in my opinion when I'm spawning behind my enemy or if he is spawning behind me. The maps are cluttered with a crap ton of debris, walls, buildings, patches of grass, and cars and such that makes it a campers paradise. For a game claiming to be more about gun on gun action, there are a hell of a lot of kill streaks. Also, whenever there is an objective gametype, the leaderboard only shows Kills/Assists/Deaths. Don't say, "well, there is a specialist package" because there was always an option to have no killstreaks activated, except in Modern Warefare 1. Yeah, irony, I know, but at least everybody had the same killstreaks. "But what about the barebones playlist" you might ask? To answer that, I would say that 60$ is a lot of money to pay for one enjoyable gamemode and a marginal campaign.

The guns and perks are solid, but I dont think that assasin should be immune to advanced radar. It makes getting more kills basically useless, since you won't be seeing everyone on the map anyway. In Black Ops, there was a way to counter those annoying Corner Ghost campers. Overpowered weapons are not really an issue, since you can't buy exclusive weapons via DLC and are available to pretty much any player, even though seeing the same weapon might get a little bit annoying.

In short, Less killstreaks, an all seeing killstreak, and simplified maps. An option to download your own music and play it in-game could be an awesome bonus to playing online, party play could be improved some, but maps really suck.

Thanks for making it this far, any suggestions are appreciated :)

I'd say it delivered just fine. But that's it, it delivered a very familiar playing experience that I've seen before.

Yea it's MW3, but it feels like they took a page out of Black Op's playbook when it came to map design. It's all one giant clusterfuck... I liked MW1 and 2's map design much better. Maybe new maps will breath some life back into it for me, but until then I'll be playing BF3.

I was turned off the second I was killed 5 times by 5 consecutive Stealth bombers. I want to shoot the man who thought it would be a good idea to put that in the Support strike package.

This game is a campers paradise, so.many corners to hide and cower in.

Plus the lag on xbl is appauling, surely activision is making enough money off this to provide its loyal suckers with dedicated servers.

Meh, you shouldn't really be buying recent CoD's for the campaign experience. It's functional, but it gets grating wherein every mission your helicopter blows up, you crash, something of any description blows up, or you're killed.

The multiplayer, imo, feels like the true sequel to CoD 4. Weapons are MOSTLY balanced, with perhaps nerfs to some smgs'. The kill streaks are much more balanced this time around, but I agree with spectrenihlus that the stealth bomber shouldn't be in the support package, as it's incredibly easy to achieve. Again, this is all just opinions, where you find a hectic cluster fuck I find a fun, fast, heart-pumping shooter that far succeeds other multiplayer games, TF2 not withstanding :D

I'm going to have to disagree with both of these points. I don't think I've seen a single position that isn't vulnerable to flanking or grenades, and there's plenty of ways to help pick the bastards out.

I haven't had a problem with lag unless my flatmate is drinking the bandwidth. If you're lagging it might be your connection instead of a problem with them.

Thats half the joy, its not me that bought it, its my mate. But ive heard others complain about the lag. I know most of it is down to the hosts connection quality, but often it seems like im a second behind, taking twice as many bullets, not getting off a single shot in the kill cam, getting shot round corners...ect.

But my question still stands, if BF3 which "only sold like 8 copies lolol" can get dedi-servers, then why cant a massive money generating galactic force like CoD be able to provide them?

I thought the campaign was one of the best in the series but the multiplayer has seriously let me down. It may be that I'm so used to playing Skyrim and Assassins Creed but in the last four games I've been able to get a K/D of 1.5 a game fairly regularly, in this I'm lucky to break even. I just seem to get killed in one or two shots even after putting in excess of ten into the other guy. That or getting shot around corners which is bullshit!
