Last night I suggested to my girlfriend that we see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, she laughed at me and told me that it was a chick flick and said that I was..how shall I say?...a homosexual.
After I scooped my pride off the ground and dusted it off she wanted to go see Bedtime Stories I was not excited at all but I did make her sit through The Spirit so I could not really argue. For as low as my expectations were the movie itself turned out to be halfway good.
Skeeter Bronson (Sandler) plays the son of a motel owner who when he was young his father had to sell his business to a entrepreneur Barry Nottingham (Richard Griffiths). Subsequently he turns the little motel into a huge four star resort and makes Skeeter (Sandler) the maintenance man and he stays in that position for the past 25 years. The plot takes it's turn when Skeeter (Sandler) is asked to babysit for his sister Wendy (Courteney Cox) while she is away on business. His only responsibility is to make sure they get to bed on time every night because during the day the children are watched by Wendy's (Courteney Cox) friend Jill (Keri Russell). Skeeter (Sandler) starts to tell the children bedtime stories framed around his life but when the children add certain aspects to the stories coincidences happen the following day that make what the children said come to fruition.
The best thing about this movie is that right from the very beginning is that is does not take itself seriously at all, which is a good thing because it's not. It's a lighter then air movie with a lot of corny jokes an unimaginable situations. Sandler does a good job playing..well Adam Sandler he's very two dimensional character but that's not to say he's not entertaining supporting cast does a good job moving the story along, Russell Brand does a great job being delightfully British and he has probably the most memorable performance of the whole movie. With a happy-lucky-ending and plot holes the size of OJ287 ( go ahead and google that) you'll leave the movie impersonating Russell Brand for about 15 minutes and then go on living you life.
Out of 5 stars I'd give it 2 and a half.
P.S. If you go for nothing else, fellas it's work the $8.50 to see Teresa Palmer jumping around in her little bikini HOT DAM!
