From what I can tell, the game is more about collecting cards in-game ... maybe buying them or getting them as loot.OniaPL said:If it has a way to acquire new cards/booster packs which may be rare and awesome WITHOUT the constant milking for money, I'd say it could be fun.
You're asking for something original from the guy who combined infinite miner with dwarf fortress?Simon Pettersson said:So it is Magic The gathering? Huh i had thought it would be something more original O.O
Well I like MTG so this may be good![]()
Actually, I would enjoy it if they weren't treated like cards, but rather the cards were just the form the player sees. You know, you could get new cards by taming monsters, sort of Pokemon-style I guess (No, I am not a Pokemon fan).Danceofmasks said:From what I can tell, the game is more about collecting cards in-game ... maybe buying them or getting them as loot.
Damnit ... this is making me want to play games with card-based mechanics again.
*goes off to look for Yggdra Union*
The picture I'm getting in my mind is that it's a tactical turn-based strategy, where you get troops or spells depending on what you draw from your deck.OniaPL said:Actually, I would enjoy it if they weren't treated like cards, but rather the cards were just the form the player sees. "I won?t be involved in the day to day development of Scrolls" Doesn't mean there's been no involvement at all nor that there never will be. In fact on the game's page there's this:Simon Pettersson said:Actually it is not Notch that develop this.Ghengis John said:You're asking for something original from the guy who combined infinite miner with dwarf fortress?Simon Pettersson said:So it is Magic The gathering? From his blog:
"I figure most people reading this blog cares mostly about Minecraft development, so let me just say that I won?t be involved in the day to day development of Scrolls. Jakob, one of the guys I started Mojang with, is developing it, and has been since we started the company."
And this:Five years ago, me and Markus "Notch" Persson started talking about a game we felt was missing in the gaming market. A game we desperately wanted to play
So yeah, you're wrong. Even if this is Jakob's pet project. The game we envisioned had elements from the collectible card game genre as well as from traditional board games. It would be a strategic game with a strong foundation in tactical game play but with a touch of random and chance guaranteeing a never ending stream of curve balls.
Ok my bad didn´t read that part.Ghengis John said:"I won?t be involved in the day to day development of Scrolls" Doesn't mean there's been no involvement at all nor that there never will be. No problem. Happens to everybody. Thanks for being classy about it. *hat tip*Simon Pettersson said:Ok my bad didn´t read that part.
That exists, though. BattleForge. Or Magic, or whatever it's called. Those games that always scream at me to buy them on the Steam front page, yet never fail to make me quickly push the "next" button as I stifle a yawn.Five years ago, me and Markus "Notch" Persson started talking about a game we felt was missing in the gaming market. Between the writing and the Leon avatar you seem so intelligent. I'm kind of surprised you seem so negative as to not even try these games out. Is it just no love for the strategy genre or the setting?SturmDolch said:I clicked on the link and it immediately made me tired. First impression: Extremely generic fantasy game. Generic weak mage character, and brutishly strong warrior. Generic name. I'm bored already. Let's read the generic fantasy font text and see if it rouses my attention.
Oh, it's a quote from Libor Aeschylus! Wait, who the hell is that? Why should I care? Half of it doesn't even make sense.
Next, read some text about magical scrolls and using them as RTS units... Sounds dreadful to me. I'm not a fan of card based games. And hasn't this been done a million times already? Oh, wait, the guys said something about that at the end:

No thanks. Good luck to them, though. I mean them no ill will, and hope their game is a massive success. Considering how many people will buy it and say it's the best thing ever just because of Minecraft, I don't doubt it will be.
I think it will have Micro transactions.mumakil said:I sorta got the idea it would be like EA:s battleforge but probably in a turn based style.
As other i really hope it wont be using micro transactions.
