It's a sad fact that most movies suck, but that doesn't mean we can't respect those moments in said movies that are actually clever. So give your favorite moments of genius in crappy movies.

Mine comes from a movie called Barracuda. No not that one, another one about killer barracuda (I know that there is at least one other movie called Barracuda). The moment in question is the revelation that the local barracuda have contracted a condition called hypoglycemia that causes them to not be able to absorb the nutrients they need from the food they eat. So despite eating like crazy, they're still starving.

Jonah Hex. The movie is deep fried shit with a side of crap. The story is horrible. John Malcovich is phoning it in so bad you can practically see the ye olde time telephone strapped to his head. Josh Brolin seems to be trying. Megan Fox can't act her way out of a paper bag. I'd wish physical harm upon the writer if it didn't seem like this movie had already signaled the death knell on his career. All that said there's this one moment with a spectacularly done special effect where Josh Brolin is resurrected, a pair of eyes open on the ground and then his face materialized out of this red clay. Really a stunningly effective and simple special effect. Shame the rest of the movie sucks.

Several shining spots in the Outlander [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outlander_%28film%29] movie with Jim Cavieziel.
Jim was a bit of a bore, but I loved the overarching idea, the melding of sci-fi with ancient old world myth retold in a new way.

The execution just didn't have the same spark though sadly.

Though Ron Perlman was (as he always is) a blast.

Now we all know the Twilight movies suck. However, there is a bit in New Moon where the wolves are chasing Victoria and Bella decides to throw herself off a cliff, all set to a Thom York song that I really liked. Maybe it was just that there was something exciting happening in a Twilight movie that made it stand out.

This isn't so much a moment of brilliance as it is the solitary component of brilliance in these films, but I'm gonna say it anyway: the Musical Scores for the Michael Bay Transformers films were brilliant. As I listen to them I keep finding myself asking "WHY ISN'T THIS MUSIC IN BETTER MOVIES?" because those scores truly feel like they belong in better films. Steve Jablonsky is a pretty talented dude.

Mark Strong as Sinestro in the Green Lantern movie, Great actor and I think he nailed Sinestro completely.

Speaking of the Twilight movies, the fourth one was the usual hilarious slush apart from the part with Bella wasting away through her pregnancy, and the birth. If it'd been in a horror movie, I'd have been wowed at just how horrible and creepy they made that. Watching it made me physically uncomfortable.

Tales of Earthsea is a pretty poor movie but Ged gives a speech about immortality that is brilliant and is wasted on this tripe.

Fans of "The Spoony Experiment" will already know about this one, as he talked about this movie and brought this up. But for the benefit of those who don't watch his stuff...
Really shitty low-budget fantasy movie "The Lords of Magick" really had nothing going for it... except for Ulrich's character arc. One of the two lead characters in the film ends up tempted by power and joins the villain. It's actually done really well. It's subtle (The writing is, anyway. The acting is overdone.), believable regarding the character actually behaving in-character for the whole thing, and if it had been in a better movie, it would have been something really special. As it is... this character arc deserved a much better film.

'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' and 'Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows' were both tedious films about two hours too long, but the idea of a villainous schemer manipulating the First World War is a really good premise that just needs a good story. If someone would do a good adaptation of that old shooter 'World War Zero' it might do it justice. As it stands we just have two awful adaptations whose plots could have been great in their own film.

Jake Abel as Luke Castellan in the Percy Jackson movies, the best and perhaps only really good casting choice that they kept in the movie (Ray Winstone as Ares would also have been good if he wasn't cut out) I haven't seen Sea of Monsters yet, but after Lightning Thief I'm not sure I want to

No, the moment that stands out in the series is this one:

It's always nice when a good actor ends up in a bad movie and he's chewing the scenery in every second he's on the screen:

Shit... that discribes almost the whole of her career...

Shit... ninja'd on Game of Shadows. But yeah, that would be a awesome premise to work upon. Though, I honestly thought LXG was okay.

Every single gun fight in Equilibrium, basically a rehash of Fahrenheit 451 plot wise but with some epic and silly gun fights.

Also, Sharktopus had an awesome theme song and idea behind it.

This film was excellent in many aspects.
The story was original,
The main character wasn't a typical hero,
It had good humour
and the monster was great - an intelligent creature out for revenge.

I particularly liked the way the main character learned the language - especially that his first words were "FUCK!"

Fairly low budget too, $50m - although it Tanked in the box office, probably had a very limited release.
Compared with:
Cowboys & Aliens $150m
John Carter $250m

Spiderman 3 - The first time seeing Sandman getting used to his powers in the pit was stunning, a short film in itself.
