Okay, so basically, I've never seen anything Monster Hunter Freedom related on these forums at all, and I would love to know how many of you have actually played it and how good you are at it (What stuff you have etc..) This can be any of the Freedom games for the PSP ('portable' games if they are the Japaneses versions). I first saw a friend playing Monster Hunter Freedom 2 for his PSP... I saved up to buy it and a PSP and never looked back. I also bought Unite when it came out in English (I didn't have the patience to decipher all that Japanese).

I don't even have a psp, so I can't really comment.

I played it on a friends though, and it seems to be something of an aquired taste.

How so? I mean, I didn't like it to begin with (The first thing I EVER tried was a Buldrome with a greatsword) but the more I played it, the more it grew on me :)

Me and my friends all have the first and second games and we came round each others houses pretty much every weekend to fight lots of different monsters and help each other get better armor and weapons. Ahhh... good times. But I HATE the Rathalos. Damn you! Rathalos and your charge attack!

That Rathalos is a cheeky bugger. Did you ever play Unite? Cause the Highest rank Rathalos on that has a bunch of new attacks O.O

I have Freedom Unite, got about 30 hours in and just never picked it back up. Just got a bit boring tbh.

I bought Freedom Unite recently because my friends play it. I haven't done much with it yet, but I'm assuming it's more fun with friends.

Ohh boy is monster hunter freedom unite one of the best psp multiplayer games ever! I currently stand at Hunter Rank 9 with even some of the hardest monsters in the game at my feet... But it comes at a price, more than 200 hours of gameplay on unite and 100+ on Freedom 2... But its all worth it, trust me, the feeling you get when you kill monsters like the Ucamlos, of the Fatalis, it's like, wow...

It is retardedly difficult and that scares a lot of people off. Once you figure out what you're doing (I have 30 hours of gameplay and am still learning), it becomes a lot of fun.

It's also very slow-paced, no matter what weapon you choose - you either guard if you're a cool dude and are using a Gunlance like me, or you avoid the enemy and figure out a pattern of the enemy's attacks, then strike.

I love Monster Hunter because it actually does feel a lot like hunting. You need to prepare yourself before every hunt with the proper items. You need to know exactly what you're searching for. You need to have a plan in place. You need to find your prey and mark it, then chase it.

Monster Hunter rules.

Right now does anyone play Monster hunter on the psp online, that is to say through the PS3 or any other system?

I love monster hunter.

Its probably the best multiplayer experience ever!

I'd love an English PC version, (come on Capcom! Stop giving Japan the neat stuff!), to play.

The game really makes you plan out your actions, both when hunting, and when developing your weapon.

I have played it and I hate it. Not because it's too hard or because you really have to plan what you're doing carefully. Those are great aspects about the game. That's precisely why I love Demon's Souls so much. It's nail-bitingly hard, but the longer you play and more skilled you become, the easier it will be for you. Monster Hunter would be a great game, just like Demon's Souls, but there is one thing holding it back. Monster Hunter is crippled from perhaps the worst camera system in any video game ever made. I've heard people argue that the camera system is something the developers planned in order to increase the difficulty of the game. But I don't buy that. Broken game design is still broken game design, and using that to increase difficulty is akin to the developers saying "we couldn't figure out how to do it better." Well, for that I have this advice: look to Demon's Souls for how to do it right.

I bought Freedom Unite 1 before I even bought a PSP, straight away I played it on my friends PSP, and when I got my PSP I hardly ever put it down
Then I got MHF2 and at first I thought it wasn't as good, but it has become possibly my favourite game of all time...

I just beat a tigrex for the first time a few weeks ago(on my first [serious]try I might add)for the village elder and I have all the quests up to there done except the Yian garuga and Kusula Daora quests... havn't played much since... I've exams coming up so I have to study a lot... and I've other new games that I play more often at the moment... but I will eventually go back to MHF2 post exams...

I'm HR2, but I rarely do the guild quests alone so I feel I've better stuff than a usual HR2
Weapons I use:
Devil Slicer LS
Red Saber SnS
Plesioth Crysalsword(only rarely, not 100% sure on name)
and I've lots of other good ones but none as good as my trusty Devil Slicer

My armor:
Cenataur Head, Chest and Legs
Gaurdian gloves
Blango waist(I'm tryin to get a new waist thing soon, maybe tigrex, maybe other tigrex stuff too)

Honestly, I don't think the camera system is bad, I just think it takes a bit of adapting to. Every MH freedom player I have seen (And I have seen plenty) have use this index finger on their left hand to control the camera. I suppose that you didn't try this, as it enables you to add an excellent level of skill to the game, being able to point the camera in the direction you wish, whilst moving in any direction you wish. It originally gave me a finger cramp, but after about 30 hours of play on Freedom 2 (I started on Freedom 2) it had made it possible for my index and third fingers to move around 3 inches from each other, making it very easy to do this a lot. After 890 hours on freedom 2, and a further 180 hours on freedom unite, it has never hurt since.
Personally I am Hunter Rank 9, and my favorite Armour set is:

Khezu Z Helm
Conga Z Body
Rathalos Soul X Gauntlets
Khezu Z Tasset
Rathalos Soul X Greaves

It gives:
Sharpness +1
Reckless abandon +2
High Grade Earplug
My Fave weapon is Chaotic Order: 1506 attack [I think] and purple sharpness with Sharpness +1

Yeah I tried the index finger technique to control the camera. It's called "the claw" or something like that, isn't it? It does offer better control over the camera, but my hand never got used to it. You shouldn't have to contort your hand into a twisted claw to control a camera that could have been better implemented in the first place.

*cough* [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Monster-Hunter-group] sorry... though we could always discuss these things here [sub]yes I am shamelessly plugging myself[/sub]
-stares at my avatar- honestly I don't know where you get these silly no monster hunter ideas

anyway in all seriousness I love monster hunter and it is a darn shame it is not too popular here in north america

but to answer your question I am HR9 (unite) and I love my diablos chaos order hammer ^^

My armour varies depending on the abilities I need

Edit: I almost forgot about Copper Blango Destructor I love this LS as it has the highest raw damage of any longsword (save for a certain icy one >.>) but I always need to have an armour with reckless abandon +2 and sharpness +1 with it

Well, It did hurt for a while, but now that I've gotten used to it, I've found that it makes me better at guitar hero O.O Oh well =] You are entitled to your opinion.
