Never played it. Seen it played on a PSP, looked alright. It'd be a good stop gap between bigger games.

It's a great game, its just a shame that the learning curve is incredibly steep and even some of the earlier monsters can be a challenge.

I really hated my college being closed for the last couple days aswell, playing Monster Hunter with my friend would've been awesome.

I don't mean to sound a total pounce but i felt i could best most monster in the field easily enough, even dual Monoblos on the 8star quest a managed on my lonesome.
But it'll agree playing with your mates it the best, 8 hours solder on the way to Germany with a friend of mine, it was brilliant.

I love it (see my avatar and user group (yay for shameless plugging)), sadly it is not all that big of a game in north america despite it being so damn popular in japan...

I do. I cannot wait for Monster Hunter 3
I'm hoping for a psp port, Monster Hunter comes into its own on the psp.
I wouldn't count on a PSP port of tri but considering how small tri is (yes I own it) I am hoping for a tri G with many of the old monsters back in because as it is tri is VERY small. monster hunter 2dos and portable 2nd G were larger than tri which is a damn shame.

Maybe I just suck then, but even so, that makes victory all the more sweeter. =]

It's a really solid game underneath it all, the monsters are all kinds of dangerous and the fighting mechanics are well done. On the down-side, it can be vert grind-y to get the best or equipment (or just a matching set of armor) and the series lost out pretty hard on the move to PSP... the best part of the PS2 game was playing with random people online where you can help noobs and show off blinging equipment once you're awesome. Despite having a lot more content individually I didn't get the same kind of replay out of the Freedom titles until AdHoc Party on PS3 made it possible to play online again.

A good game, hard to get into with a steep learning curve but it is very rewarding. It requires thought, effort and concentration to be successfull in the game but is very fun.

Meh. Back in High School a few of my friends convinced me to get a Monster Hunter game and I played it a bit. It was alright, but it got boring for me. It's was just fighting monster after monster and a shitload of grind.
