When I was young, I played the N64 game Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time. In the first stage, where you reach the end of the Deku Trees level. You face up with the boss of the level called Queen Gohma (Or however you spell it).

The first time I saw its big bloody red eye glaring down on me as it stalked towards me.

. . . .I had to save and shut off the game. XD

It really freaked me out and I didn't want to play it for another day or so. It wasn't until my sister decided to watch what I was playing, that I was finally able to beat the boss and move on with the game.

Now I'm older and I played the game on the Wii again and I can't help but be embarassed by my younger self.

I was scared of a two legged eyeball? WTF?

Have any of you guys been scared of something on a video game when you were young, that you now think is just silly or not even remotely scary?

That episode of Superman where Smallville is controlled by this alien called Unity. I had nightmares for weeks, now it just freaks me out.

That one troll from Ernest Scared Stupid. When riding in a car and coming to a stop I would always lock the doors in fear it would bum-rush and pull me out. I'd also jump into bed afraid it would be hiding underneath to grab me by the ankle.

I can see the roll of "I pissed in my pants when I saw Pyramid Head".

I think the whole experience of Silent Hill 1 scared the hell outta me in 1999.

Was mildly scared of the Dahaka. I know its a pretty new game, but dammit it was edge-of-seat stuff when it was chasing you.

Zombies. But thanks to the internet and my friends there is very little I am afraid of.

Except spiders. And bugs. And heights.

Other than that not much scares me.

That's the only episode of superman I ever saw. Strange that you would mention it.

Queen Gohma's another obvious choice for me. I made Link shrink into a corner holding his indestructo-shield up for a good ten minutes before I mustered the courage to flee.
Keeping with the Zelda theme, Wolfos and ReDead. Hearing the signature cry/moan for either made Link either flee or, if he was tiny, turtle under the Hyrule shield.

Also, the eel off of Mario 64 that jumps (swims?) out of nowhere. I screamed.

In Shadow Warrior, there was this one grey monster that ran up to you at insane speeds. It came from a dark corridor and just charged, and I was so scared I just blasted it with the most powerful weapon I had. Overkilled him good.

Back when I was 4, I was PETRIFIED of the tyrant from resident evil 1, but I pressed on, only to relieve myself as a zombie dog jumped out and nibbled my nuts off.

Baba Yaga
And this other guy, (can't remember name right now) but he was like a goblin prince/king, and I read a book, (I was 8) a folklore book, and he was chasing this guy and the guy had his kid strapped to his back, and by the time he got to were he was running to the baby was stone dead. The book gave the story in a lot more detail.

I used to be afraid of the headcrabs in Half-Life, but then Half-Life 2 came out, then the only ones I was afraid of were the poison headcrabs.

Them glitches used to scare me.
Then I gave them their own reality show.
And now I'm not afraid of them, or any other game monsters.
... Except Pyramid Head. And zombies. Well, just name an SH monster...

Run like hell, those big things.

I was just annoyed I couldn't get far and the big things only made it worse (the ones where you get context-sensitive (or w/e) dodges to run away, and you screw up, you die.)

Fear kinda did too, I guess, that mixed with boredom made me shut it off.

The poison headcrabs still freak me out. And I'm 29. It's getting better though.

That one scientist that was turned into a Gibo near the Stone Temple Tower in Majora's Mask used to freak me out as a kid.

I remember opening up that closet he was in and having him stumble out... lets just say the end result was me sitting on my couch, petrified.
