Personally I still enjoy watching the First MK movie but this doesn't look half bad and would be something I definitely wouldn't mind watching.

That looked fucking awesome, although I will remain cautiously optimistic seeing as trailers can make anything look good. This new direction though is pretty damn cool and some of reworked character concepts are fucking sweet.

Let's hope this will be a good game movie even if it strays from the source material. I wonder if sub-zero shoots liquid nitrogen at him victims or something.

Eh, supernatural element would just feel like a stupid cop out from the looks of what the trailer implied by giving a more "realistic" aspect to characters. I mean it would be so out of place to see magic just pop out of nowhere, I still like the liquid nitrogen idea better for zero I will facepalm if I see scorpion pull his face back and shoot fir out of his mouth.

This is all of course taken in the context that this is a movie and not just some glorified game trailer.

I think it would be cooler if they skipped all the icebolts, firebolts etc etc and if they have to use them, they should come up with explenations behind the phenomonon.
The only iconic characters that truly rely on magic to be "themselves", are Sub-Zero and Raiden. The rest of the crew can simply be rotated just a little, but still retain their character traits.
Shang Tsung is the main villain, simple as that. No soulsucking, just badass Snake/Crane.
Reptile and Baraka were explained.
Scorpion could perhaps have a spear up his sleeve expect out of his hand.

I think this movie can be alot of fun if they keep it violent, and avoid the traps the SF-movies fell into.

I freakin love Mortal Kombat, and i really enjoyed watching that.

But I realy doubt its the real deal.

There was an Article on the Escapist a while back about Chris Casamassa coming back in the next MK movie installment to play Scorpion, and that wasnt Chris.

....All 3 of those characters were somewhere in the first 4 Mortal Kombat games, I believe.

Eh, after looking at the links that KoSRN posted, I realized I kind of stopped after MK Trilogy. Shinook does look familiar, but the 3D MK games just didn't have the same feel as the early games and weren't my thing.
