One of the most annoying cliche in movies for me is this dialogue:
A:I'm wounded.I cant walk you have to go on without me.
B:No i'm not leaving you alone.
A:You can't save me!
B:I'll remember you as a brave man/woman.
Edit:the thing i wrote really isn't a good example so i'll go with totally forgetting the villain and not completely taking care of him.

I think he means when one party member is injured and tells the others to continue without them. "Go on without me!"

For me, the fact all villains have the same motives. Kill all people except a select few, start a new, better race.

The protagonist gets betrayed by someone, oh wow that's something new.
And the betrayer is the one who had the second most screen time, or is either related to him/her or his/her closest friend.

Not exactly a cliche but certainly not a good thing for movies. Micheal Bay.

OT: Dark and gritty = Mature and thought provoking is something that should be abandoned.

See this is a thing that I find more and more; What's the difference between a Cliche and something that really happens? Your example is a pretty bad one since that does happen in war zones. People have had to leave friends to die because if they didn't they'd die too, it's not just in the movies.

EDIT: An even better one would be Birthday parties are cliche. Cake? Hats? The song? Awkward drunken sex people regret? All Cliches but all things that really happen. Is anyone going to roll their eyes and say "How pedestrian!" when they see any of these things?

badguy having change of heart, one weapon that can kill badguy being simple to get rather than somewhere that no-one can get it, good guys activating what is ovisley a trap, do I really need to go on?

Is every cop "too old for this"? For once, can't there be a cop that gets shot, blown up, and falls off a building only to land on a car, who says "Oh my god. I am exactly the right age for this!"?

Just a thought here, what would happen if no movies had any chliche's at all??
Well nobody is saying a movie cant have one or two cliche's and still be good but a whole movie being made out of them is bad.

It was all a dream. You know the last hour and a half you just saw? Not only did it not happen in real life, but it didn't even happen in fiction. Bye!

Happy endings. Regardless of how outmatched the protagonist is, or how far from their goal, or how badly they blew it with the girl, everything works out fine in the end of the film. I actually really enjoy endings that don't do that, because you can be genuinely surprised by them. It doesn't even have to be an unhappy ending, just something that is unexpected

And no, not just throwing a 'plot twist'

For me, the ending of Watchmen was really good, because
it leaves you thinking about whether the outcome is good or bad, and whether or not Veidt was justified in his action

It's not just a case of 'and then the good guys won and everyone lived happily ever after'

IMPLOSION!!!

GOod question though. I love movies that make a big deal of starring someonem and then that person appears for a split second on screen 40 minutes throuh.

Example: Jason Schwartzman in Scott Pilgrim. They made a point to mention his name in the opening credits, and once he didn't appear on screen for about 30 minutes, I knew he was The final boss

Deus ex machina. For those unfamiliar, its when the main character is deep into so much shit that it is impossible he will go out of that whole, alive, or happily... Unless god itself (or the writer through a contrived and so far unmenctioned twist) literaly decend and make everything fine again in the blink of an eye. Think about the ending of the new Planet of the Apes.

I admit I sound like a cock when I talk like this but I'm honestly not playing the Mr. Superior game.
