Title says it all whats the hardest game you have ever played?

I personally am split between Dwarf fortress or Fate of the world. Both are Confusing, hard and have a insane learning curve. Although that actually makes them better games.

Gonna have to go with Contra. Was too young to know what a Konami Code was so all I had was 3 lives. Tough game, but good times

The hardest game I have ever played was Psychonaughts. And that's probably because that was the first game I had ever played. I was about 8-ish. I went back to it about 6 years later and found it to be wonderful. Played it about twice and is one of my favorite games.

Super Ghosts n Ghouls.

Congratulations, you finished the game! But, wait! You need this little trinket, go search for it through THE ENTIRE DAMN GAME.

I haven't finished it to this day.

Men of War: Assault Squad....

Even on easy, the AI just wont let up. Constantly sending waves of units at you.
All it takes is one lucky tank shell, and that Tiger you waited so long to call in, is all of a sudden dead in the water.

Followed shortly by just plain dead.

So now there is nothing stopping the advance on that flank, and you are doomed!

I Wanna Be The Guy... yeah that's kinda cheating. Urm, I suppose... Sin and Punishment, or at least the new Wii one.

I'd have to say this. I think I managed to get to the 4th screen after hours of perseverance and learning which things try to kill me.

The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall. My brother just recently downloaded it after doing a bit of modding to make it work on a Mac. My first character got brutalized by a rat and as I started to rest to regenerate some health suddenly I heard a squeak of a rat... Several saves latter and I still haven't been able to get out of the tutorial dungeon.

Edit: Assuming that rogue-likes count it would be Dwarf Fortress. Damn elephants man... Damn elephants...

My on and off relationship with Ultima Online back in the day. That MMORPG had the most ridiculous learning curve of anything I have ever and probably ever will play. I loved that game, but seriously...

Well technically it's still a game isn't it?
But yeah,I will have to go with IWBTG as well, because in Touhou I can make it to at least level 4 without needing a continue,in IWBTG I can't even get past the 3rd screen. (The one after the cherries, with the one cloud that falls and the other that rises.)

With or without cheats?

I wanna be the guy isn't hard , in the sense it's challenging, it's hard in the sense it's trial and error / timing / dumb luck , i don't think that counts , and if it does count it's cheating.

Also is sin and punishment THAT hard? if so i might just go pick it up .what kind if game is it and is it long? ( sorry i want to know more about this game )

OT: Resonance of fate , one of the only games i rage quit due to it being too difficult + the fact that i can't get the hang of the battles ( hurts my gamer ego ) . Also RE5 on professional with AI controling your partner .

If you want to talk about nintendo hard , well i own a copy of ninja gaiden 2... on the nes

That all depends. There are games that I didn't finish, but usually because the game was so poorly designed or so lacking in enjoyment that it was not worth the effort. That said, a game that isn't completed should likely be considered more difficult than any game that has been completed. However, I would not state this. I didn't finish a 3d Ninja Gaiden because they are awful games - super hard, but too poorly made to bother with (if I can't ever see the enemies killing me off screen then f'ing forget it).

So, with that in mind, the most difficult game that I can think of would be Valkyria Chronicles. I very much want to continue playing the game but even with video walkthroughs I cannot beat whatever level my game is saved at (it's been too long since trying for me to remember). Perhaps it's simply the kind of game, I'm not usually one for strategy, but it is definitely beyond my grasp even when cheating.
