Mass Effect 1 and 2. I haven't had a game completely blow me away like these two did in a long time, especially the first one.
Pretty much the same answer except I disliked Mass Effect 1. I'll admit, it did feel epic at times but it felt drowned by the surrounding boredom. Mass Effect 2; very epic game.
I loved them both, but I'm an RPG whore and ME1 felt like an RPG with shooter elements, while ME2 felt like a shooter with RPG elements. Both were miles ahead of 99% of the game released in the past 5 years though.
I'm also an RPG whore but, for some reason, I didn't really like Mass Effect 1. Maybe it's just that I don't really like RPGs with guns. I prefer shooters with some RPG elements tossed in. Although, I did love Borderlands.
The only part of ME1 that really bored me was in the very beginning, getting out of the damn Citadel. Once you factor in all the side quests, you could spend at least 4 or 5 hours in the Citadel before even getting the game started, especially without a strategy guide or walkthrough. But once that part was over, the pace really picked up for me. ME2 had a much less epic feel to it, but there was definitely a lot more action in it, which is always good.
