There may be a topic like this, but couldn't find one after a brief search.

I'd like to know what people think are the most overrated movies. For myself, I think:

Juno
The Dark Knight (Briefly number 1 on IMDB?)
Magnolia
The Godfather
The Matrix (please don't kill me)
Slumdog Millionaire
Gladiator

I don't think Juno is really overrated. I mean, I don't recall hearing a lot about it, but maybe that's just my not paying attention.

The Dark Knight I can agree with. I liked it, but I think Heath Ledger's death (not his awesome performance) had a lot to do with it.

Magnolia...was Tom Cruise in that? I don't really remember it that much.

The Godfather. Well, no. That is probably one of the greatest movies of all time.

The Matrix! Yeah, good, but not really that awesome. It did a lot with SFX and such, though.

Slumdog Millionaire was pretty fucking good.

Gladiator is another one I agree with completely. Decent movie, but way too many people were all "That is my favorite movie ever!"

My choices:
I...can't think of any now. Maybe later. Oh, Gone With the Wind.

Citizen Kane. That is all.

It's half-decent at best, and yet every "greatest movies of all time" list seems to be obligated to rank it as number one.

I wasn't impressed by Psycho. I couldn't end up watching all of it and yet that is meant to be a very good film.

I agree with Australia also, and Twilight, but NOBODY seems to like it, lol

Edit: How did I not think of it...

Iron Man

How in the name of Sam Hill was that movie universally praised by critics and the peons? Aside from a great performance by Robert Downey Jr., everything about it stunk: the cliche tragistory, the face-palming final battle (complete with monologuing "I'm 5o b4d" guy), and the generic side characters (seriously? Pepper Potts? How lame is that?). Most overrated superhero movie ever; even more than Spider-Man 2. I wouldn't touch either DVD/Blu-Ray disc with a twenty-nine and a half-foot pole.

I'd have to say three things:

A Christmas Story: A random kid doing random crap on Christmas. Seriously, that's all it is, yet it's considered a classic.

The Sandlot: Random kids doing random crap with baseball. Seriously, that's all it is, yet it's considered a classic.

Anchorman: Random newscaster doing random crap... and women. Seriously, that's all it is, yet it's considered a classic.

Yeah, I am going to have to go with Anchorman. It might have something to do with the fact that I despise Will Ferrell, I mean I hate the man, I mean words cannot begin to describe the feeling of ill-will I have for him. I hate him and all his movies.

Matrix trilogy and Titanic
Trilogy? Yes. But the first movie was great, you can't say it didn't change the way we think. I mean, it was really one of a kind movie.

I disagree with the Godfather. While the first movie was few times better than the sequels, I think it was one of the best movies I've ever seen. Someone should make you an offer you cannot refuse.

I do agree with Slumdog and Gladiator, though. Nothing special about those movies.

The Star Wars Prequels.
Hello? This is "overrated" movies thread. Almost anyone will tell you that prequels are worse.

Saw.
40 Year Old Virgin.
Shaun of the Dead.

So many people telling me that they're the most awesome film ever. So many people I wanted to strike.

I always found the Matrix trilogy entertaining in the way that watching ten thousand pounds of TNT blow up a skyscraper is entertaining, not exactly a high brow experience, but the final defense of the dock in the third one was epic.

OP: Lost in translation. Bill Murray doing NOTHING. Weatherman. Nicolas Cage doing NOTHING. Both hailed as incredible movies.

All the Mourning in the World

It starts with an 8 minute shot of an old guys face while he listens to a muscle style that went out of fashion hundreds of years ago. It's hypocritical, and the characters show virtually no emotion , even during traumatic events.
