I like Fallout 3, and I admit that I don't have any of the downloadable content for the game, but Mother Ship Zeta seems wierd. The idea that alians may ne around in the fallout universe is intresting, and finding that crashed alien shipwith the odd radio transmition was cool. But the idea of being captured in an alien ship is a bit silly. The aliens are the basic green skined "takes us to your leader" like alians. It seems kinda dumb. If I could work on it I would make it, instead of being the lone wanders adventure, some sort of cartoon or old movie. So you would play through a 1950's (or 2077's) sci-fi B movie. I haven't played Mothership Zeta, so if you can explain anything to me about something I don't get, that would be helpful.

You're making an awful lot of assumptions and criticisms without even playing it, go give it a whirl and then tell us how you feel.

I haven't played it, so it isn't like a bad 50's B-movie? Because that would fit the atmosphere of the game.
I am currently waiting, and going to buy all the DLC at once when they release it as a pack. (If they do)

Zeta is one of the main reasons I'm getting the GoTY edition. I think it looks quite good fun.

Try the Game of the Year edition. All the DLC and original game. They are releasing it as packs but Zeta won't be released on a disc except in the Game of The Year edition.

Maybe because its supposed to feel like 1950's and those classic aliens origionated from that? Seems extremely fitting really.

Played it, Definately good fun, IF a little short. Just seems to add more questions then answers.

Incidently, Anyone puzzled by the whole "air" equation?

I already own Fallout 3, so I don't want to go buy the GotY edition. Can I buy the DLC some other way than through LIVE? or has M$ put a stranglehold on Bethesda? (I have the PC version BTW)

I played all of the DLC for Fallout 3, and feel that I can confidently say that Mothership Zeta was the worst of the DLC. The new guns aren't really all that fun to use, the aliens are boring and generic (not to mention annoyingly hard, and this is coming from someone who was already lvl 30 by the time he got on board the mothership).

The strength of Fallout 3 is in the ability to explore a massive world. This is exactly what Mothership Zeta did wrong, it took the massive world away, and made you trek through a series of narrow hallways. If the entirety of Fallout 3 was set up in the same way Mothership Zeta was set up, I have no doubt that Fallout 3 would have been almost universally panned by critics and players alike. I think we can thank our lucky stars that Mothership Zeta was only a tiny portion of the game.

I'm not sure as I'm on 360 and my internet connection can't handle much. I'm getting the GoTY then trading the old copy of F3 so I don't really take a loss. Try the fallout wiki for more info. Address is fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Wiki. wouldn't link for me.

The main reason alot of people are dissatisfied with Mothership Zeta I can explain easily.

It came out last and it's a fighting mission. Why is this a negative? Well, certainly we can all state that fighting missions are fun because they only have one objective: KILL! However releasing it last is problematic because most people won't jump into missions such as these at low levels. So you go through the mission not leveling up because you've reached the cap, causing the only benefits to be new weapons and a new story (which is pretty good, but mind you that with each download we've been given something that adds to the story).

The main things from recent episodes were as such:

Operation Anchorage: The best armor possible as well as a way to level up some more
The Pitt: Possibility to level up more and get an interesting melee weapon.
Broken Steel: Raised the level cap.
Point Lookout: Basically a new world to explore and possibility to level up.
Mothership Zeta: Possibility to level up, semi-new weapons.

With each release the chance to level up decreases.

I looked it up on the official site and discovered that each DLC costs 800 MS points. There are 5 DLC packs. That is $49.99 for the DLC. More than what the GotY edition will cost me. So, I will sell my old Fo3 copy to a friend for $35, an buy the GotY edition for $45-49, and pay only about $15!
MUHAHA! I am evil! and clever!

Kinda off topic, but the DLC was buggy as hell.

Yeh, given the game's 50's stylings, it makes sense that the aliens would be of the variety often in seen in the B Movies of that era. It was a nice effort, but still no Mars Attacks! :)

I was expecting more about the aliens motivations in Mothership Zeta. I guess you have to think 1950's-based paranoia

On the bright side, there is some nice eye-candy in Mothership Zeta and
you get to use the spaceship as a player home at the end of it

It's certainly not the worst DLC, but I kinda liked oblivion's DLCs better. At least when I paid for a nice place to hand out there, they didn't throw in half a quest before I got it. I did feel that all Fallout 3's DLCs were too short and probably work better if you randomly encounter them on your first play through.

Yeah because clearly 1950s sci-fi wouldn't be cliché today. Oh wait, that's the entire point. I have to honestly question this line of thinking and wonder if anybody these days truly understands that Fallout is supposed to be a complete embodiment and send-up of what people in the 1950s thought the future would be like.
