Given Movie Bobs, horror and aversion to the re-boot of Starship Troopers, I wonder what I have to do to find out his opinion of the original. Does he not want a re-boot because he loved the old one so much, or because he hated it? Or is it just on general principles?

You could try sending him a PM and hope he'll answer it.

I mean, there's a good chance he won't (the one I sent to him months ago wasn't answered), but it's worth a shot.

The script is being made by whoever wrote Agent Cody Banks.

Take from that what you will.

As for me, I'll stick with the bug stomping original parody film. I can like both it AND the book can I not?

The book while a good read, would not make a movie that would be enjoyable by many these days.

Sure staying more faithful to the sci-fi aspects in the book could be great, but trying to portray the ultra conservative message faithfully and seriously would fall short for most.

Having not read the book, I am apparently not in this discussion. I do know that the only good Starship Troopers was the first one though.

I do agree with that. There are some serious political messages in there which I admit go past my head. I still keep reading it, fourth time now, trying to fully understand the book. But what I meant was being closer in certain elements like power armour and said discussions without maybe, the 'bias' Heinlein had as you point out. I hope it turns out to be good, this is a film I want rebooted. It deserves to be rebooted into something a little more faithful, just maybe somethings need to be dropped like all good adaptations. Pretty subjective that last bit I know but I always read that things are always taken out in order for the film to be enjoyable or work. An example I keep seeing is the Lord of the Rings. But perhaps I should read the book and judge myself.

Never. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it. It's one of the better television series aimed at children.

Also the people responsible for the screenplays of Thor and X-Men:First Class. I admit that said film isn't the best but X-Men:First Class was pretty damn good wouldn't you agree?

so is this going to be serious? or the campy satire of the original?
I'm hoping the former. If it's the same style of the first-film, I will cry. It hasn't been announced yet so it's all speculation for now.

There wasn't much in the way of political discussion in the book. The book was a look at an ultra conservative society. Not conservative morality specifically, but a very conservative form of government, almost to the point of an oppressive totalitarian government. A government that is open to brainwashing and other techniques shunned by people in what are currently considered more modern societies. There are several mentions of more liberal governments before failing, and people stepping up and placing the current system in power. A system that only rewards those that adhere to it with the right to participate in it.

You sort of lost me there but I will keep reading your post over and over again. I'm not educated, not yet anyway as I'm reading a book called Justice, but I hope that your post will shed some light on what the book is about when I read it again.

I don't know what you're talking about as far as MovieBob, but I would definitely like seeing a Starship Troopers movie done right. I absolutely adore the book, but the movie was a wreck. It turned a very since book into a god awful satire that totally insulted both the original work and the author. Regardless of what you think of his view, you don't buy the rights off a man's sick wife and spit on his grave.
