What movie remakes or adaptations are better than its predecessor?

Scarface? The Al Pacino version is at least more widely known than its predecessor. Whether that makes it better or not is up to the viewer, though having seen both versions, I'd say it is.

Evil Dead 2, such a unique horror, that I feel created the insane and maddening comedy genre, with it's perfect blend of horror, suspense and humor.

I enjoyed the Conan the Barbarian remake more than the original.
