Movies that don't age well

Ever watched a movie from your childhood, or beyond that, that is beloved by most people? Or that cult classic that your friends and/or family seem to harp on about? Ever feel guilty for watching that same movie, and not liking it at all?

I just watched E.T. for the first time ever. I found Elliot whiny, most of the scenes boring, non-interesting characters, and the most drawn-out ending I've seen since Return of The King. But that's just me.

Any other personal examples?

I've found classic horror movies like the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers or The Day The Earth Stood Still don't age well, but they're still very fun to watch. But I don't think it just stops at them. I watched The Shining for the first time a while ago and, while it was cool and entertaining, it wasn't at all scary.

No, I can't say I have. However it is always amusing when in movies like that when a specific date is given as "the future" such as the original Terminator movies or the '86 Transformers movie.
"It is the year 2005..."
Um yeah...

I was going to say something about how SyFy original movies won't age well because they're crap when they're made but I don't really know anyone that actually thinks they're good movies either.

For real though I'd have to go with Avatar because everyone that saw in the theater busted a nut over the special effects and the 3D and all that crap and now that they've bought it on DVD I've seen quite a few people that have decided the story was a bunch of preachy enviro-hippy bullshit.

Taxi Driver
i was born a good 25 years after it was made
so never understood the society in which it was set
so it hasnt aged well in that its horrific climax which shocked audiences of the time are commonplace now and are a lot more gruesome in all modern action films

I used to watch The Crow every day back in my sophomore and junior year in high school, but just watched it a few months ago and went, "Wow, really? And I loved this movie?"
It isn't like the movie's completely turned to shit, but I just wondered exactly how I could have loved the movie so much.

I think Moviebob said Heavy Metal has lost its luster. I've never seen it, but it is an example.

I have to agree with this. I didn't like it in the theaters, but people who did lost their interest when it wasn't in 3D.

Audiences of the 1910 Frankenstein literally fled the theatres in terror. These days there's more violent and disturbing imagery in children's breakfast cereal commercials.

most stuff with CG looks worse faster than the stuff with puppets/animatronics. That said blade runner. If that movie is to be believed in the near future we wont have the internet and everything will be really really dirty.

Last summer I got my girlfriend at the time to watch the original Star Wars trilogy for the first time (I know, I know) and she went on about how dated it looked. Quite often, when people say stuff like that to me, I then see it from their point of view but, with this, I couldn't. Star Wars still looks fantastic! It was the 1997 VHS edition so it was slightly remastered but not to a huge extent

Anyway, no, I can't think of any. I agree with OP about E.T. but I've just never liked that film, I think it's overrated and I love Spielberg usually

The cgi in The Last Starfighter is utterly terrible compare the current cgi base films.

I actually don't know why I still like Avatar. It has the same plot as The Last Samurai and other movies, and TLS did it better.

The CGI in the `remastered' Star Wars films has aged terribly. Why couldn't he have just let things be?!
