Movies that have aged well... (or not?)

So I just watched Starship Troopers - 1997 and I have to say it's aged way better than I expected...

I had a nice big post written up given a mini review and exactly why I thought so... But it had gone and f**king deleted itself right in front of my eyes as I grabbed the above image... Thanks Mr Jobs...

Sufficed to say the majority of my post pointed out the strong story (especially given the subject) and character components, unique and much imitated design and thankfully not relying on CGI to make the worlds and ships etc... Being nearly 15 years old and a sci-fi film... This surprised me enough to make (and subsequently lose) a thread about it...

Oh and my forays into my cinematic heritage haven't always been so pleasant as anyone who has seen Lost in Space recently can attest to...

So tell me fellow Escapists, in as much detail as you like... What films have aged supremely and have earned a proud place in your movie collection? And what horrors would you see cast down from glory and relegated to the realm of bargain bucket garbage?

In my opinion (although YMMV) The Big Sleep- it may not be as gritty or sordid as it once was but its still engrossing and there are some genuinely amazing dialogue, the restaurant scene between Bogart and Bacall is one of the most innocently filthy things Ive heard.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day. It is STILL better than anything released today.

Also, both Cardcaptor Sakura movies. Along with the series itself. Especially the series itself. It transcends all gender and age barriers. Truly Timeless.

The Santa Claus. It actually benefits from the terrible CGI, because it makes a once unfunny movie absolutely hilarious.

Okay, serious answer: Pale Rider comes to mind. Despite my love of westerns, most of the older ones are pretty cheesy and full of bad effects, but Pale Rider fares pretty well.

I'd say the dinosaurs from jurassic park still hold up quite well when compared to modern CGI creatures.

Star Wars Episode II. Arguably not as bad as 3, though.

OT: Run Lola Run is still great, and The Karate Kid has aged better than my dad expected.

Not so well? The Pink Panther. Tried watching it when I was nine or so... not a huge success.

I don't think the first Toy Story's animation holds up very well. When compared to the shit we have today, it's just "all right." The movie's still good, but the visuals have gone from "WOW" to "meh."

Agreed. Nothing pulls me out of a movie faster than these obviously fake monsters and effects. It's just jarring when you can tell everything was green-screened.

So yeah, Jurassic Park did creatures correctly.

OT: I challenge filmmakers to make anything as funny as The Big Lebowski today. I don't even think the Coen's could do it again. It's just a perfect storm of awesome movie.

I can definately agree there, most Bill Murray films do well I find, and this was one of his best... Great screenplay. Well directed and a strong performance from Murray put this in my top 50 films...

[Soviet Heavy]

The Back to the Future films have all aged with grace.

Another film that aged incredibly well was Waterloo. That movie has fucking insane battle sequences fought between fourteen thousand extras, all before CGI was invented.
